Politico's "nuclear option", "If polls suggest Newsom is in serious trouble as the recall draws closer, the governor could resign from office. That would allow Lt. Gov. Eleni Kounalakis to take over the job and short-circuit the recall tied to Newsom — while undoubtedly raising the hackles of Republicans."

Grey Davis thought he was safe too in 2003. They ended up with the Governator.

That would be Newsomes smartest move in over a year and really the only hope to stop it. He and several far left progressives continue this storyline it’s all the GOP when I fact a huge amount of moderate Dems signed that petition to fire his ass. He’s truly delusional if he thinks he’s not in trouble and thinks he has blind fealty from registered Dems. He truly has no respect for his own voters then assuming they would just support him no matter what. The Democrat party has already shown that with comments like Biden’s if you don’t if your voting for me or Trump then you ain’t black shows the contempt they have deep rooted and just take their power as matter of fact and betrothed to them.

I think Newsom probably won't resign because he is too selfish, and cares much more about his own political record than the Democratic Party in California.

I think he's hoping that this highly blue state won't recall him, even if the poll numbers end up looking bad. I will say that some very far left friends of mine on Facebook are sick of him, most notably because of the French Laundry issue.

The affairs by themselves aren't a huge deal in 2021, but that will add to the pile of reasons people have to get rid of him.

I will also point out that I have been saying Newsom is awful for years, quite some time before he was elected.

I just haven't talked about him all that much because I knew he was destined to become governor, since he had no strong competition in his own party, and Republicans didn't even bother trying to mount a serious challenge to his candidacy.

I was very sad to see Jerry Brown leave, and be replaced by Newsom. Brown, despite being on the left, beats to his own drum, and doesn't let Democrats tell him what to do. At times he broke away from what California Democrats wanted, which pissed them off. He was no conservative, and I often disagreed with him, but I respected his willingness to sometimes side with Republicans on certain issues.

Yes, the first thing Ahhhhnold did was go to ask the federal government for money to shore up the state's finances, which is what Gray Davis wanted to do, so really what was the difference?

I specifically remember Arnold on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno saying that "I have plenty of money, no one can buy me" and then he did the exact opposite and sold out. He is a POS.

And I'll keep this to the point I'm in Seattle now And it's beautiful here.

But WOW do I feel for all you Californians and that you are totally in a Lockdown State now is absurd. Immean that was the only negative part of my entire California trip. Was that absurd Cali unnecessary lockdown. I mean I don't get it we are now with 4 vacinnes and 4+ months no and you are in a Total Lockdown it's unreal. I mean if I was ever glad to be a Floridian and gained a little more understanding and respect for Ron DeSantis logic, now I get it.We are a Tourist State and out Governor said not happening, we arent locking Florida down again. But wow California and NewsonMe pulling his best Cuomo for sure there...

That was the only bad part of an otherwise amazing visit to California for me. But that's ok now w I have an excuse to go back hehe.......

We are not in a total lockdown. A ton of things have been opening (albeit not at full capacity - yet)

It's hilarious that we as a society think everyone can be a dr, a lawyer, an engineer. Some people are just fucking stupid. Why can't we just accept that?

I'll bet up to $1K total at even money that Newsom is NOT recalled by the end of 2021. When does his term end, 2023? May be willing to go full term but that's a long time to tie up money.
