    California On Fire (Again)

My cabin in the Sequoia National Forest is in the evac area north of Shirley Creek. Looks like I’ll have to spend the weekend playing poker in Vegas.

Very good YouTube channel run by a commercial pilot who lives in northern Cali who does reporting on natural disasters there using his own video footage taken from his plane.

The reckoning for southern CA will likely hit in October -- the most common wildfire month in this area. I live in a wildfire danger zone, so I will be watching out for it.

There have been 2 major wildfires which came close to my house since I came to this area.

It was an extremely dry winter/spring. A few small traces of rain earlier this week might actually slightly help matters, but likely won't do that much.

Lake Powell and Lake Mead are mere puddles.

We did a houseboat on Lake Powell years ago. It is remembered as one of the greatest vacations by the kids. Lake Powell as a vacation spot is finished and unrecognizable.

Colorado River is gonna get restricted huge.

Fires and water is all the same issue.

    pretty sad shit

The smoke in Vegas today is from the French Fire still burning, less than two miles from my home in the Alta Sierra community. The brave fire fighters have held the line west of Rancheria Road, but the 200 cabins there are still in jeopardy.

    @jayjami

Do you have a ring doorbell or security camera given you are away a great deal?

That would be interesting. Hopefully not.

I think the existence of the lake by your cabin will save it.

The helicopters can get water more easily to dump on the fire, and the fire itself has fewer paths there.

    Good luck.

They’ve been dumping fire retardant for 5 days. The lake is as low as its ever been. Fire hot spot right behind my house now on a Charlott Dr.

House looks like it made it, saw the roof in a helicopter flyover, but the fire came within a quarter mile. They won’t let us back up there yet. Will post pics.

On another note, my two weeks in Vegas playing 15 $100 to $400 tournaments and netting a grand total of $60 confirmed that I am still a very average no limit hold’em tournament player. Since I can’t make the seniors this year, I’m only going to play limit events at the WSOP.

The house made it, but it was a close call. Definitely drew to an inside straight and hit it.
    The drive to my cabin:

The fire burned over the highway and up the hill, right up to my neighbors:

The fire came about 500 feet behind my house, right to the SCE tower. The burn closer was probably a back burn:
