Site is under DDoS attack for past 2 days

I have built in some pretty good DDoS defenses into PFA, so you probably haven't noticed any problem.

However, PFA is getting hammered by DDoS attacks.

It is unclear what the objective is. At first I thought it might be related to the Jami Lafay stuff, but from further investigation, it seems to be a foreign attack not targeted at me personally.

It's still going on as I type this. Later tonight, I will take further measures to shut down the attack.

In the view of everything else going on, this is minor. Can't be 100% certain but this looks like some foreign group (or individual with a lot of different systems under his control) is trying to slam the site. Might even be some dumb hacking attempt rather than a DDoS, which just looks like a DDoS because of the heavy traffic from tons of different IPs. I'm still analyzing what's going on.

About a decade ago I wrote some routines to execute in the background and defend from this sort of thing, and it's doing very well so far. That's why the site is not only still up, but also running smoothly. However, I'm not saying it could withstand a major attack. I'm just saying it's withstood what has been done so far.

Anyway I'm looking into it further right now.

It appears to be a distributed SYN_RECV attack with spoofed IPs.

However, it's not a very good one, and it's failing to even slow down the server. Part of this is because of the existing anti-DDoS routines I wrote 10 years ago, and part of it is because the attack just isn't very spirited.

Regardless, it's annoying. I've taken some additional measures against it. Not exactly sure of the point of the whole thing, but who knows? Maybe it is aimed at me, maybe it's not. I'm not as sure as before that it's foreign-based.
