NFL has at least been able to keep player decisions private. Some guys secretly getting vaxxed despite their families objections. NBA guys wont be able to do so, we will know whether they are playing in certain locales or not.

They didn’t make it a requirement but they put protocols in place. If someone tests positive then he and possibly others will have to sit out. And they will lose that game’s salary if they are unvaccinated I believe. And unlike last year they are not rescheduling games due to Covid. If your star player is out then too bad. If you can’t field a team at all you forfeit. In others words the unvaccinated bear their own risks, and teams beat the risk of their unvaccinated players. Just like the unvaccinated will soon be paying a lot more for insurance. Their decision, their consequences.

My view from across the pond is that the British are far less restless and angry as the Americans but that you only got there fairly recently and if thats true then there is hope for us still. This is going to be the first real battle. Mandating it for adults is clearly legal. Not forced, but requiring it for employment. This is going to be a real battle, even in California. I assume it’s legal as there are already many mandatory vaccines, but this is different in that those are for things that afflict kids in large numbers. I’d take a deep breath and let it play out. Full FDA approval plus some window might give it a year.

Does this also include private schools? I assume your son is in private school being it’s California.

Yes, this is going to be required for ALL kids, provided the vaccine has FDA approval for their age group. Supposedly the EUA for ages 5-11 is coming soon, and the FDA approval isn't far behind, so that will mean ALL kids in school.

I am very upset by this announcement. I want it to be my choice as a parent -- not something forced upon me. The benefit from vaccinating children is MUCH lower than the benefit from vaccinating adults, and the risk is substantially higher (given the unknown developmental issues from it).

Newsom really sucks big time. Of course he waits until after the recall is over to announce this.
