I don't understand why Merge cares so much about secret rakeback. I get that it creates fiercer competition between the skins, but that's no skin off Merge's back. Why not let them compete? If customers move from one skin to another, it's all the same in the end.
However, they will lose business pissing everyone off with moves like this.
