you'd both be running in the exact same conditions. stay in the AC until race time if you like.

Oh I know, I just don't want "how do they handle the 110 degree heat" to be a factor in this.

But as I said, I might be willing to do it anyway. I am still not sure if jsearles is serious, and I need to see whether he's still a fatass, or if he's dropped a bunch of weight via exercise and now feels emboldened.

Some people are arguing that being shorter means you're going to be lighter, so that's why more of the good runners are short-average rather than tall (since all of them are going to be thin/muscular, so the shorter ones will be lighter).

Others believe it's way your body is made up, and that shorter/average people tend to be built in a way which can allow them to move faster.

However, others believe that longer legs are better.

I still maintain that being tall is a disadvantage. Look at baseball, where the speedy guys on the basepaths tend to be under 6'. Yes, there's some fast tall guys, but they tend to be very young, and lose that pretty quickly. The fastest runners in baseball tend to be on the shorter side for MLB (and about average height compared to American males).
in sprinting the advantage is to one with longer legs and more fast twitch muscle fibers

sprinting speed is a function of quickness per stride times length of stride...quickness per stride is difficult to increase, it can be increased somewhat by running downhill or being towed while running (by a car)...the muscles and nerves can learn to move faster....length per stride is much easier to increase, and it is done by improving the strength in legs and core, so that each bound covers a greater distance...by strength training the fast twitch muscle fibers get stronger plus more neutral fibers are converted to fast twitch by the body...additional anatomical advantage is density of bone the muscles attach to, the denser the bone the stronger the muscles can contract against...here too strength training increases bone density, leading to longer strides.

a body type with longer legs, shorter torso, dense bones and a larger percentage of fast twitch fibers has the advantage as a runner short distance...

I’ve gained back most of the weight I’ve lost. I’m 5’8” 205. If you wait until June I very well could be back in the upper 180s though. It’s pretty much my yearly cycle.

I contend I could smoke you today though. Why not just video a 100 yard dash? Would be pretty straightforward.

Druff could probably run like hell back in the day especially if there was something shinny at the finish line.

unfortunately right now of course because of the corvid lockdown druffs physique is a lot like a egg on a stick/corn dog. so fast sprinting is not on the menu just now.

Again, with the temperature. SMH. You could do it INDOORS. Convention centers, large ballrooms...it could easily be done INDOORS and temperature won't be a big deal. But keep up with the excuses. Unless, you're just angling for better terms. LOL.

+550 Druff is getting smoked halfway through the race and grabs his hamstring saying he tweaked a muscle. Like that Michael Johnson - Donovan Baily race.

Tall guys take longer to get up to speed. Once they do, it’s game over. Base paths are less than 30 yards to each and the best base runners have to be agile, and being shorter helps with cutting the corners correctly. That’s similar to football. Lot of really quick shifty guys are more agile, but over the course of like 100 yards or meters, the tall guy has the advantage. Lots of shorter guys are even or ahead early until they kick it in, then the longer strides take over

Like height isn’t an advantage in something like the 40 they run at the NFL combine, but it is at 100m or yards, which if you’re going to have a foot race is the pretty standard length.

You wouldn’t want to be 6’8 or anything. That’s a disadvantage. Optimal height if you look through history and sports is probably 6’1-6’3.

His old is Searles? Still in 30s?

In late 30s, my first step at anything was still quick enough to beat kids to my spot is most sports. Once I hit mid 40s, it’s strange, you don’t feel older, but it’s like your body knows exactly what to do but you’ve lost significant quickness. It’s depressing as fuck. You just end up settling for jumpers, and once they realize you can’t blow by them, contested ones.

I know with my old girlfriends boys, who were really quick and athletes but undersized, I’d spot them like 40 yards when they were 9 and 8. By the time they were 11 and 10 it was like 15 yards. They were going to flat out beat me by the next year and he wasn’t even 5 foot yet, but I wasn’t ever all that fast in a sprinting sense. I had a good first step and burst, but I always got passed by the faster guys even at 40 yards.

correct re: getting up to speed...as i recall, in a 100 meter dash, the first 40 meters the runners accelerate, then next 20-30 meters they are at max speed, the last 40-30 speed is deteriorating...longer legged guys can have higher top speed because of greater distance per stride

10 seconds for 100 meters is world class speed , 15 is just a fraction of that no way druff could run it in 15 seconds.Brings back memories of Ben Johnson and obv Bolt.

    I’m 38

Someone said the line is -200 me. I’d lay $1000 at that number pretty comfortably.

Jsearles is trolling with this "deceptively fast" bullshit, and y'all are falling for it.

On the off chance he really thinks he's -200 to beat me in a 100m race, and would wager $1000, I'll propose the following terms:

    - His $1000 to win my $500, escrowed of course, for a 100m race

    - If jsearles is less than 195 pounds at race time, I have a right to either cancel the bet or renegotiate terms

    - If I am less than 210 pounds at race time, he has a right to either cancel the bet or renegotiate terms

Sorry, but this guy isn't beating me in a race, even 11 years my junior.
