While I agree it’s dumb they got $1800 last year and now another $1400, they’re paying for all of it. Nearly half the country doesn’t pay income taxes.
Those who make too much are getting screwed, but it’s irrelevant money to anyone not eligible. People are inherently jealous. Politicians need votes. All of our money is being devalued by adding all this debt. If you make $150k as a couple and are eligible, you’re going to likely spend it and spur the economy, but it’s mostly votes and politicians not wanted to be viewed as just helping the poor. That would be unpopular. It’s kind of like we are rewarding all the idiot women who have three or four kids by two loser men and made poor choices, but to not penalize the kids we condone their mother’s idiotic life choices.
Thankfully this should be the end of it as the world opens. I’ll be against any further payments for nothing after this one unless there are simply no jobs to be had and we are at an astounding unemployment rate. And at that point, I’ll be for right wing policies like drug testing people we give money to. I’ve always kind of been against that for food, but for it for actual $.
