While you guys are obsessing over a Trump defeat which is pretty obvious at this point, how about taking a step back and acknowledging the epic failure of the Dems outside of Biden.
$200m was spent on unseating McConnell and Graham, and both were Republican blowouts.
The House is going to result in 11-15 (probably closer to 15) lost seats for the Dems, in a year where their Presidential candidate is going to win by 4+ million popular votes.
As many as four "safe" Democratic seats are going to go back to the GOP. And by "safe", I'm talking about seats where everyone was totally relaxed and the GOP was thought to have zero point zero chance of reclaiming them. Guess how many safe Republican seats flipped? Zilcho.
What does this mean? To me it's pretty obvious.
Trump lost half because COVID showed up in his reelection year. and half because he beat himself.
Swing voters aren't happy with Democrats right now. This should be painfully obvious. Swing voters are very concerned about the party's rapid shift to extremity, and not many were fooled that the BLM/Antifa protests were "peaceful". They do not trust the Democrats with matters such as taxes, law-and-order, and healthcare. Swing voters also see the media for what it has truly become, and they're concerned about cancel culture. Swing voters support gay marriage, gay rights, and respectful treatment of trans people, but are not on board for the extreme LGBTQ insanity we've seen over the past few years.
I think 2020 is going to confuse Democrats. They're going to pat themselves on the back for defeating Trump, and become complacent. "If we beat him, especially with a weak candidate like Biden, that must show we're doing something right."
They are probably going to ignore the rest of the messaging from the 2020 election -- from the unexpectedly close Presidential race, to the disappointing Senate race, to the bad House results, to the record-breaking minority percentages going for the GOP this time.
I expect to have a big smile on my face after the first week of November 2022.
That is all.
ivanka and jared scrambling to find a dictator who will take in the don and the rest of his immediate family.
must provide protection from US extradition orders and Deutsche Bank in exchange for some of Deutsche Bank's money.
Russia, Bahrain, Belarus, Brunei and China top the list.
does anyone believe that this was really all?
but yeah imo these results are _not fucking good_ for democrats at all.
i really and truly have no idea if they deliberately accepted a solution that would alienate down ballot votes but somehow eek out a presidential win or what.
i see a four political party system brewing here; socialists, center left, center right, and team retard. and when i look at these results, it seems to me that center right will vote team retard a lot more than center left will vote socialist, and as long as that holds true the balance of power in america will always reflect that.
it really seems like trumps anti-immigration stance has found a receptive home among previous strongholds of democratic support, and thats anathema to the democratic platform so where does that leave us exactly..
in any case i really dont have a lot of confidence in the current DNC leadership somehow generating a candidate with a platform that does better than biden, and this sort of 'bare minimum' victory when viewed outside the context of headlines is actually a pretty stunning defeat.
'if you cant convincingly win a referendum against mentally ill racism, youre bad at your fucking job', would be my one comment at any DNC town hall right now.

ok dumped my trump GA play at about a 4 cent loss because that shits a wrap and it aint gonna get better than it is now.
i got $750 poised to return about $5100 if trumps lawyers can somehow get trumps scotus investment to pay off, which seems reasonable from a risk/reward perspective.
i dont really see any other advantage lines. i like the 'no' on will a candidate concede before nov 17 line, but at 75c why fucking bother. i genuinely dont think trump has the ability to concede, like emotionally, but then i still have to sweat biden's win falling apart and him conceding, or pence conceding for trump while they have trump sedated.
theres just no meat on those bones, not at those odds.

There's a good metric political parties should use to judge whether they're getting too extreme too fast.
Go watch your own party's primaries debates. Then ask yourself, "How many ideas discussed here would have been considered batshit crazy by the general public 10 years ago?"
If the honest answer is, "Most of them", then you've become too extreme, and it's time to rethink your messaging. Democrats really need to do this if they don't want a 1994-esque shellacking in the midterms.
Kinda unrelated, but something else to watch is how the public's attitude has shifted on gun control. Prior to 2020, there was an increasing acceptance of, "Guns aren't very useful to the average citizen, and some of them lead to an increasing number school shootings and spree killings". The public was more receptive toward gun control than I had seen in a very long time.
Then came 2020. Now the general belief is, "In the event of a riot, the cops will be told to stand down, and you're on your own." This blows away the long-pushed Democratic narrative that you can simply count on the police in the case that you need protection from criminals. Gun and ammo sales hit record levels in 2020 (to the point where there's a huge shortage now), and it wasn't just the gun nuts stocking up.
In short, the NRA was a huge winner in 2020 -- and I'm not talking about the election. Gun rights aren't going anywhere for a long time now. And if the Dems foolishly try to pull a Beto O'Rourke and start looking to restrict them, that's going to lead to an even bigger 2022 beatdown.
This is very unscientific, but I know several of them.
They all despised Trump, but also were terrified of the Dems having all 3 houses, as they sharply disagreed with a lot of the extreme stuff they were hearing, and were irritated by the excuse-making for the riots and rioters.
These people all gave me basically the same explanation -- that they'd rather see nothing get done than either have the Dems completely in charge, or Trump getting 4 more years. So they intentionally voted to create gridlock.
i was wondering how long it would take to trot out the 'urban violence / gun control hysteria' card.
but yeah my expectation is that without a republican sociopath playing 'discard and destroy' games against populations that didnt vote for him, we will see a lot less urban unrest.
at which point the gun control issue will take a back seat until the right wing incel school shootings start to ramp up again.

More guns is exactly what this country needs.
This virus is really getting in the way of more mass shootings but it's nice to know they will resume weekly or bi-weekly after Biden cures the country of the Virus and things get back to normal
You're 1 Senate race away from losing the Senate and giving up all 3 to the Dems
I'm not playing any card.
Gun and ammo sales are off the charts. Many people who had no desire to own a gun before have quietly researched how they can purchase one -- even via a legal transfer from a friend who has more than one.
Even if the riots decrease over time, there will be a "But what if another 2020 comes along?" counter to any gun control argument, and it will be pretty tough to answer. For a long time, the gun fanatics were mocked for their whole "police won't protect you in times of public crisis" scare tactics, but lo and behold, 2020 proved them exactly right.
I actually hope the Dems try some gun control measures. Right now that's political suicide, and it should be for years to come.

regarding the 'what if another 2020 comes' scenario, i dont know if people have that sort of memory. like you could be right, i can actually imagine the last 4 years essentially rewriting the issue, so people just feel like having a gun around is necessary. but the core of my point was that the last 4 years have been such a total immersive descent into uncharted depths of dysfunctional madness that there will be a retracement back towards 'guns make me nervous and i dont want one in the house' being the defacto norm fairly quickly.
it wont happen right away im sure, but if biden can make government boring again, there's hope.

druffs point about 2022 is good.
if the democrats choose not to draw a line in the sand between trumpism and the left, and they fucking wont because they are on some kumbaya unity shit and live in a fucking fantasy world, the right will do exactly what the right does best; lay blame for what is already a dying economy at the feet of the 'socialist left'.
the left could basically forfeit control of both houses by 'taking the high road', and they just dont have the DNA to fight dirty.
