Lasorda was a good manager for the '70s and '80s.

He was not good at evaluating talent.

His biggest mistake involved Pedro Martinez. After Pedro had a great first season pitching out of the bullpen in 1993, Lasorda was repeatedly telling the front office that Pedro had no future as a starting pitcher.

"He's way too small", said Lasorda. Indeed, listed as 5'10", but actually even shorter, Pedro was one of the few Major League pitchers who wasn't tall, and his small body just didn't seem destined for pitching greatness.

However, he performed damn well in 1993, and was the brother of the highly-touted (but ultimately mediocre) Ramon Martinez, so they should have given him more of a chance. Instead, they shipped him out for the lolbad Delino Deshields, in one really was one of the worst trades of all time.

Had Pedro been a few inches taller, the '90s and '00s Dodgers would have been a far different story.

also, the 1998 Paul Konerko (minor leaguer at the time) for Jeff Shaw trade stunk too...the Dodgers were 8 games out mid season and trade for Shaw, too far behind to catch up...Shaw had a few good years left but meanwhile, Konerko goes on to play for 15 more years and to hit over 400 mlb career home runs, mostly with the White Sox

To be fair about Konerko, he looked like a bust. The Reds also gave up on him after the trade.

The Padres series will be a litmus test against a playoff caliber team. I still kinda don’t know who the Dodgers really are.

In the Dodgers defense, (because above all I am a fair guy with respect to the Todgers) the reward for winning the division outright is insane. They should get a bye or something. A 3 game series agains a hot Giants team in an even year is not right. I wouldn’t even want to see an upset. Yes, I said that. That’s not good for the sport.

It is the Dodgers predisposition to being cute. In this case, the idea that they can treat their lineup as just 8 utility fielders. Just plug and play based on some theoretical math.

Im a Met fan too actually, and this is a weird year actually all together right. The Mets are doing the right things to get better I think, theyll get there in a couple years Max and be a much more competitive team in the NL then.

Why play 162 games just for seeding? Why play 162 to get to .500? NCAA basketball plays a handful of regular season games. It’s a different structure altogether. You want to go from 162 regular games to 80 or 60 we can talk about that bit I’m not leaning into that either.

If this happens I’m done. It would be an easy decision too.
