To have stay at home orders now is like putting up storm shutters on the back half of a hurricane. It's too late. Good thing is I get the sense we will be out of this by July. I must admit that I made a colossally boneheaded statement early on in this thread, which I’ve bolded below.

The bigger issue is how widely the virus will spread before it is sufficiently contained by public health measures. If most of China gets infected, the death toll there could rise to tens of millions. Of course the same issue applies to the US population, but the US has a much more sophisticated epidemic disease control system than China, so the risk of it spreading to a large percentage of the US population is likely very low.

How I could have believed this even partially given that we currently have THE most incompetent president in the history of the country,...



...as well as an administration plagued with many Trump-appointed anti-science drones and corrupt sycophants, is quite embarrassing. Perhaps it was a some vestige of national pride I was still clinging to in the hope that Trump hadn’t completely fucked up our federal government’s pandemic response capability.

But at least I am willing to admit when I have made a boneheaded prediction when confronted with more information.
