It's one of those things that's so simple, it defies explanation why any country doesn't follow this path:
Not infinite lockdown. Nor reopening too soon. Get new cases to zero and then keep the reproduction number below one.
In lieu of a vaccine / solid treatment, it's the only way right now.
You can control it when it goes to near zero cases, the R0 <=1, and this is the problem, this # can change.
Track and trace have to be "ready to pounce" the minute anyone gets it when you have only 0.1% of the population each day testing positive.
That's all u can do...testing as many as you can of course too.
Technically, if you can keep your country's borders shut, this mind-bogglingly goes to zero fast in your own country under lockdown. And I will admit, the US is like many small Euro countries with no border control so it won't be possible as fast here.
