Lol DeWine daily conference started by him coughing twice into his hand and then touching his face. How the hell can the average joe follow directions when our leaders can’t.

the problem with this is that there is no antibody immunity apparently, so people will keep ping ponging it back to each other until they get sick and die.

San Diego county fair has also been canceled. Probably the two biggest events in San Diego.

Ideas have been tossed around to open up local, non-strip casinos first, so as to allow residents to get back to work. This is dumb, because people will start flocking back to Vegas to go to those casinos instead, and the same problem will start up all over again. Also, most of the casino employees work at the big strip hotels, so this plan doesn't accomplish much.

But I knew this would happen. It was clear that Nevada would be one of the earliest states to push back against a continued shutdown, and would either open back up or get into a big battle with the federal government over it. It's looking like Trump is going to step aside, and the state is going to decide its own fate.

You won't see me at those casinos. Not for a good while.
The mayor has no power in Las Vegas.
She tried this shit last month, she wanted the original 30 day shutdown to be a one week shutdown.

The Governor told her to fuck off.
The Governor is not close to re-opening Nevada.

He will probably continue the non-essential business shutdown another 30 days, at least until the end of May.

Las Vegas casinos will sell corporate junk bonds to raise cash. Why open in the middle of a pandemic to very little business?

Enjoy them for a month or two before they close again. I’m a little shocked they’re opening them in the first phase. I can’t really think of much worse places than the Petri dish that is a gym. Even high end gyms. Everything is shared equipment.

How the fuck do you properly clean dumbbells before the next guy grabs them? Clean long bars exactly? Almost any serious lifter uses chalk. Good luck with that. Thankfully pool appear safe as long as properly maintained.

Seems impossible to control and my gym always had spray disinfectant next to everything. The way these phases are set up, it just reverts back to lockdown the first spike. I give that a few weeks to a month and it will be shut down again. Cases have doubled or close to doubled last week in every rural state without a stay at home order. And those states have no one living there.

If one funeral creates a giant cluster, I can’t imagine what a gym will do. I’m happy for San. I am surprised a guy who has been proactive as DeWine would ok gyms of all places. I’m guessing someone made a two pronged argument about them going under fast because of the nature of the business and people getting out of shape and it presenting a bigger health problem. I can see that argument having validity, but gyms are going to be a damn quick incubator for a reversal.

It’s a little nuts in the context of phasing.

People sweat in gyms. People touch their face and all other organs. Then they touch stuff.

Is OSA taking spin class with a mask? It’s a personal O2 disaster. What is the point? Not sure we will offer spin.

Members are going to be brutal with opinions and complaints about hygiene. Everyone has been inundated 24/7 with Corona science. Everyone is an expert. I know a mid 20’s kid who thinks this is all stupid and he’s gonna be the guy to catch the customer beatings.

The pool comment makes me laugh. I know a licensed pool maintenance guru. 25 years. College educated. He would never ever swim in a public pool. He can quote you acceptable fecal matter ppm. Commercial systems are pretty complicated and require constant maintenance and nobody does it. How often are the lifeguards testing? Ever? Dare ya to swim in a hotel pool - THE worst.

When a little kid unloads in a public pool and you have a “Code Brown” you don’t want to know what the code is for safe cleanup and reopening the pool. Shit happens.

Gyms are gonna wish they had a close prior relationship with their local board of health. We tip generously.

I think the second wave bloodbath is almost inevitable. Pressure to reopen will build and build until some of these governors cave which will fuck the rest of us.

Didn’t realize that about pools. I had googled covid and pools and they said they were safe as long as properly maintained. Didn’t realize that was a pipe dream. That makes it worse because my place is owned by a doctor who kept expanding his PT facility into a full on gym so the pool is a big draw. People argue over time slots. And my whole area skews older, particularly the pool as it’s really good for aches and pains associated with age. I thought ok gloves. But then people just sweat, you grab something, it’s on gloves, you transport it everywhere. I just don’t see how it’s done

I want the gym back. I was doing lunges in my dads garage yesterday with a barbell loaded up and an excel for dummies 2007 under my heel. I don’t enjoy these makeshift workouts even though my ass is so sore and tight today that OSA would try to fuck me if I put a bag over my head to disguise the age of the man behind that ass.

I want the gym back. At 10 AM I’m 10-15 years under median age at my gym and I’m no kid.

Bottom line is obese, terminally old, lung disease, 400 diabetic scores stay inside.

This has been a total hype machine. Guess where the most deaths per capita: New York, New Jersey, Louisiana and Michigan. And guess what they have in common???? Democratic Governors.

    Red states doing just fine.

Trump has been right all long, the shutdown is much worse than the bat flu.

imagine what it would have been like without this thread.
It is interesting, nearly 4 months after your initial Wuhan/Lab post, the MSM is now reporting this might be legit and probably obvious. Good call. You do understand though when Tom Cotton raised your theory in early February, Brian Williams, CNN and that Fareed guy all called him a conspiracist fear monger. You nailed this, but so did Tucker Carlson in January. That has to sting. The left got it wrong the right got it right. It's called a paradox Sonatine for you.

    I could riff forever.

Winter pools are a closed loop environment. I want to preserve heat. I’m drawing in ZERO outside air. It’s a larger sauna. You going in your club’s wet sauna?

We live in an educated, well to do, liberal neck of the woods. People are going to be reporting employers, stores, gyms on the regular to the board of health. I pray for their soul.

One way to bet your gym opinions is Planet Fitness PLNT. The origin of Simpdog’s Planlmar contest. Been trading that like a mofo. 12% today alone. If you have a gym opinion that’s where to place your bet. I will short that again at the first sign of a second wave.

I disagree, in general healthier people attend gyms. Mine is large enough to easily maintain distance. As far as barbells, yes clean as best you can, but the key is to clean your own hands before and after use.

    So grossly irresponsible.

For the life of me I just can't understand why Fox News is taking this line; there's so many other ways to cater to the base than by literally ensuring more will die.

Just go at Pelosi, China, WHO, whatever - all of whom definitely worthy of criticism. Why this?

I’d bring 2 bottles. A bottle of your own disinfectant and a water bottle to each station. Bring a washcloth for use with disinfectant.

You aren’t generating endless trash from used paper towels or wipes.

The commercial disinfectant wipes are gonna be on back order quick.

You aren’t constantly hunting down the gym’s bottles or wipes.

Your own bottle of disinfectant might be a new look for the serious fitness type. Who knows?

I’m sure he will be there, and if not, I will find another to feast my eyes on while I sweat it out.

I am meeting a new gentleman this weekend for a walk in the park. If this pandemic has taught me anything it’s that broken split is healed and ready to goooooooooo. If I would end up dying of covid I’m going out with some good fucking memories. Literally.

Definitely bringing my own gear to the gym.

I’m convinced my dogs had the covid as well as myself. The dogs were severely ill and I had throat and gi issues for a few days. Will do my best but refuse to live scared.
