Not surprisingly, Vegas is starting to push back against the shutdown. They have to. It's a one-note economy. If the casinos are shut down, everything collapses there.

Here's the mayor bitching about it: https://www.newsweek.com/las-vegas-m...te-now-1498434

Ideas have been tossed around to open up local, non-strip casinos first, so as to allow residents to get back to work. This is dumb, because people will start flocking back to Vegas to go to those casinos instead, and the same problem will start up all over again. Also, most of the casino employees work at the big strip hotels, so this plan doesn't accomplish much.

But I knew this would happen. It was clear that Nevada would be one of the earliest states to push back against a continued shutdown, and would either open back up or get into a big battle with the federal government over it. It's looking like Trump is going to step aside, and the state is going to decide its own fate.

You won't see me at those casinos. Not for a good while.

It's hard not to feel for people in the disposable income sector. They are likely to suffer the most and for the longest time period.

I feel very bad for the people of Vegas.

There just wasn't much of a point to shut down at all if they're just going to fling the doors back open before we've accomplished anything against the virus.

This just has a feel of, "Okay, it's been a month, we're sick of being shut down, the virus isn't gone, fuck it, let's open." Seems reckless to me.

    Vegas reopening article: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...alers-in-masks

The city, the largest gambling market in the U.S., would open its giant casinos with as little as one-third of their rooms available. Entrances would be limited, and guests’ temperatures would be checked with noninvasive methods. Casino employees would wear masks and gloves, and gamblers would sit at least a chair apart at blackjack tables.

    Oy vey.

Temperatures checked with noninvasive methods, huh? So there's not going to be a security guard standing at the door shoving a thermometer up my ass? Good to know.

It's as if we just decided to forget the fact that it's been discovered that COVID-19 has a ton of asymptomatic and not-yet-symptomatic carriers.

    No fever, no problem!!!

Not surprised that the Governor of South Dakota is dumb as fuck. She looks like a fucking nut.

To any science guys: I found a Smithfield boneless pork roast in my freezer that I bought 10 days ago. Can I safely cook it up or is it like bat meat? It says Virginia but maybe that's just corporate?

Stick with being a leatherass, house-husband, poker player. That or our resident Third Reich sympathizer. Either way, just stfu for a while with your unending verbal diarrhea. You are feckless; less than a month ago your family came to an agreement to support Trump and you lacked either the intellect or moral courage to protest. A couple of weeks later you have changed your mind. What a joke. You don't need to lecture anyone on here. Stay in your lane - grinding online while your wife works.

Well you used 3 o's in good so it MUST be true. 25 hours a week. lol. Sounds like not only are you a idiot(your words not mine), you're a mediocre idiot.

Working 25 hours a week, as a grown man, is like playing a tournament and once you cash, you go home, content with min cashing.

You are pitiful. People ask me stuff, cause I'M A FUCKING LEGEND. You? You're a mediocre idiot.

I, for one, am not going to set foot into a casino (including the WSOP) until one of four things happen:

    1) Effective treatment
    2) Vaccine
    3) Virus disappears
    4) I have antibodies for it (and the test for this is reliable)

Otherwise, fuck that. I'm staying home.

Now, if the new infections go down extremely low in my area, I'll start be more willing to do things like returning to the grocery store, eating takeout, and visiting friends.

However, no fucking way am I going to a casino, poker room, or anywhere with a lot of people.
Only chance we have is that it disappears when the weather heats up like some prophet suggested. Otherwise the pressure will continue to mount to reopen the country and it’s gonna be a bloodbath. We better hope NostradaTrumpus was right or the second wave is gonna hit hard. Too many people will be desperate and broke to give a shit about stay at home orders.

with an effective over the counter treatment, we could simply adapt to this. the pressure it would put on americans to shape the fuck up would be incredible.

That's why, orders or not, I am going to continue staying at home until this entire shitshow is over (that is, one of the four circumstances I listed above).

I realize that for some, they don't really have a choice. Fortunately I do, so I'm staying.

Another idea that I have heard floated around is some sort of hand held Breathalyzer test for viral particles. If these were widely available (at home and at businesses) seems like it could really facilitate opening things up.

Even some kind of technology where you blow into it in the morning at home and it sends some sort of confirmation to your cell phone that companies could scan when you enter. Obviously intrusive, but it seems we are at the point where society as a whole might be ok trading off some freedom and privacy for security.

id like to see a viable white paper on how to distill the requisite technology into something portable.

off topic how is it that every single fake doctor oprah made famous is now on fox news demanding we 'accept losses and open up the economy'.

-Here is one that does HIV antigens and antibodies at the same time. The technology is definitely there in theory. It is just a matter of putting it altogether in an efficacious product. And of course getting through all the bureaucratic red tape and special interest shenanigans. Obviously testing laboratories like Abbott aren't really going to want to be taken out of the loop.

Speaking of viable products... How about a object that is made out of copper(since supposedly its the safest in terms of the amount of time Covid can stay on it) that you can use to press on things like ATM buttons, touch screens etc to avoid contact with those surfaces. It can be attached to keys as a keychain or a stand alone type of thing.

Think of brass knuckles, but more ergonomically designed.

Druff, would you pay for something like this? Maybe $19.99?
