Senate GOP unveils massive coronavirus bill that includes checks for Americans

WASHINGTON — Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Thursday released the Republican proposal for a massive emergency coronavirus stimulus bill, which includes direct cash payments for some Americans.

The proposal, expected to cost around $1 trillion, calls for direct payments on a tiered scale. Individuals making $75,000 based on a 2018 tax return would be eligible for $1,200 payments, or $2,400 for couples filing jointly.

The payments would decrease for those making more than $75,000, with an income cap of $99,000 per individual or $198,000 for couples. The payments would also increase $500 for each child a person or couple has.

However, taxpayers with little or no income tax liability but at least $2,500 of qualifying income would be eligible for only $600 or $1,200 for couples. The direct deposits appear to be just a one-time payment, rather than two payments as initially proposed by the White House.

The Republican proposal also includes emergency aid for small businesses and industries such as airline companies.

The GOP proposal would provide $208 billion for loans or loan guarantees to air carriers and other distressed industries but no more than $50 billion for passenger air carriers and $8 billion for cargo air carriers. The rest, around $150 billion, would be for other industries.

The bill also calls for extending the tax filing deadline to July 15.

Mitch McConnell is really fucking over seniors who make $12K a year and pay zero in taxes.

Even if they were to pass it tomorrow by both the House and Senate, it would probably take until May 1st 2020 for you to receive anything.

Trump, who has rarely been correct in his statements and actions during this crisis, was 100% correct in this case. WHO has generally become a tool of the Chinese Communist Party and seems unwilling to criticize China's handling of the early stages of the virus's spread, not to mention China's failure to deal with food safety and public health issues that may have started this whole tragedy.

Having hammered China, I still have come to believe that their almost Orwellian lockdown program may be the only real way to turn the tide on the spread of the virus.

Regardless, if I did get one, I don't see why you're saying that I should reject it. I have never stated that government assistance is incorrect here. I think some form of government assistance is necessary. We just need to avoid any money-printing solution, or a solution which requires private business to dole out social welfare without compensation from the government.

Personally I disregard just about everything celebrities have to say on important issues. Like I assume most reasonably intelligent people do. Most of them have already found a nice safe place to sit this out in luxury, and I'm sure they have stacks of toilet paper already.

In regard to this cover up. It appears the Chinese government were the ones who were mostly lied to.
The Wuhan and Hubei officials were the ones who tried to keep this quiet and stifled information. And I don't believe any of the doctors who tried to expose the situation were actually jailed. Threatened and told to shut up and not spread lies certainly.

There was a good article I read a couple of days ago that said Beijing sent 3 special teams from the NHS and each time their investigations were stymied by locals.

Might be a few Hubei officials that end up in jail though.
