did you move since filing your last return? the address on you last return is the default address they use...No joke, how do I make sure the IRS has my address? They always send shit to my old address and it gets forwarded to me but I'm worried it won't get forwarded now.
your best bet is to call taxpayer services with the IRS...but be prepared for a hold..they promise 15 minutes average per their webpage, I've spent longer 1-800-829-1040 https://www.irs.gov/help/tele phone-assistance... as discouraging as that sounds, this is probably your best bet.
I would also be sure to check with the irs.gov view my account at https://www.irs.gov/payments/view-your-tax-account ...set up an account immediately if you have not already...I don't know if they can change right away/soon enough to affect the mailing...but do this anyway so you can track this payment and any subsequent payments the government sends
if you have a preparer and you have authorized him to access your records, he can examine you account for that...I used to do that for my elderly clients that would panic every time they received an irs notice and I had to reconcile their payment history to the irs charges...elderly remember paying but were often confused as to which year their payments were applied to...IRS can be worked with...the state tax agencies can be a real headache
and beyond that. you can immediately efile an extension...also contact the post office and put in/renew your forwarding address if you can...also, file form 8822 with the irs--change of address, you may need your prior return for AGI info to validate your request. these measures may help as well
the treasury will use the address listed on your last tax return if they mail a check...don't know if they will direct deposit, if they do they will use the bank account on your last tax return...thus if you have already filed for 2019 you are okay

***clarification***by filing an extension you are also providing the IRS an updated mailing address, effectively replacing the address reported on you 2018 return. that updated address should work to get you your virus relief check.

I’m not sure if I’m the one who is going to be wrong in the conversation or not. My take was all the measures we are taking at the minute are to “flatten the curve” and not the flat out “beat” corona. There is no beating corona until such time that there is a cure. I don’t think we will want to lock everyone in for long enough to “beat” this.
