Yeah, those damn cruises are troublesome...but still:
"One of the four travelers that had come from China for the Caribbean cruise — and are now hospitalized — had a fever on the cruise, Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis told NBC New York.
The fever went away with Tylenol, he said."
Three others are under observation at the hospital, which has negative-pressure isolation rooms, according to Davis.
...so likely nothing but common cold/flu...highly doubtable to be 2019-nCoV.
The good thing about cruise situation, at least for us here in the west, is that since there's a miniscule amount of Asia-USA type cruises (ZERO cruises coming to North American ports from Asian destinations right now or we would know about them) we shouldn't see the type of problem that is happening with Diamond Princess docked in Japan right now...

just saying 10,000 people have died from the flu this year in the US and it's only february.
bat soup is perfectly safe and also delicious is what i'm trying to say
You’re making a good point. A flu that we have a decent handle causes a lot of deaths.
A new virus that is quickly spreading could cause much worse damage.
The flu comparison is silly because we have a handle on how the flu works. Yes, 10000s of people die every year in this country.
People talk about threats. Semantics.
People say flu is a bigger threat. Yes they are right in that right now you can catch the flu really easily in the US. You couldn't catch corona virus without showing up on a quarantine's frontdoor and molesting them.
People say corona is a bigger threat. They're also right because it isn't fully understood yet and China obviously blocks information. We have the weird account where the young doctor died after getting in legal trouble for spreading valid information. This was a freak occurrence or it suggests this thing is more dangerous than we thought. People are turned away from hospitals and such. We'll see more in a few weeks if this explodes in other countries and scientists will understand the virus better. Until then who knows?

Singapore has elevated threat to SARS level, panic buying is taking place in markets.
I tried pointing them to this thread to calm their concerns but to no avail.

Remember force majeure? Container ships with incoming commodities being refused. Commodities are DD.
You missed it?
Ok, now you want to consider your big box stores like Home Depot. The shit that was ordered in December will be rolling in in 20-30 days. Or... maybe not. HD is all cheap shit tools and chain saws made in China
Vesselfinder.com is Flightaware
just hip pocketing this. not sure if it’s valuable
Take half your Wynn profit and short some big box.
Fed making some noise about concerns. Look at bond market. We are setting up for 0%. We reaaally need to look at big real estate concerns that are going to refinance and bink yuuuuuge
I got a name I fucking love but need to think it through.
48% of Chinese men smoke. 19% Women
This might have something to do with mortality risk differences in populations. Why? idk. Receptors? General health? Doesn’t matter.
I cannot stop thinking about population density. Macau so densely populated. Then you realize the factories in China are often a dormitory arrangement like US oil drillers.
Stupid market was up all week. What a gift.
We had two or three cracks at Wynn 135. They just kept giving it to us. It wasn’t just China . Boston sucked too. China & bad fundamentals in a bad industry. I can’t push the buttons for you.
Why is AAPL unaffected.
Feels clueless. They aren’t opening Feb 10th.
Apple Store and office closures in China due to coronavirus to extend a few more days than first expected

It’s fun to game. Gotta stay calm.
We aren’t even talking supply chain. I don’t get it... market so wrong
AAPL so public. Want to be more stealth but maybe fading stupid public is the way to go

does this sound like something that happens in a city where 618 people have died of a bad flu?

About 61,200 died in the 2018-19 flu season in the US.
However, we don't hear about this because:
1) The flu is well known and has been a threat for a very long time
2) Healthy people are at very little risk of dying from it
The healthy people who do die from it are ones who mismanage the illness, such as allowing themselves to get severely dehydrated.
For the most part, the flu kills the already-sick, the elderly, and young babies. Not to say that this is trivial, but the average adult doesn't have to worry about it, nor does the average parent once their kids reach age 2.
The coronovirus is not fully understood, so that's the reason for some of the panic. If it was known that it is no deadlier than the flu to healthy adults, people would be far less concerned.
First of all, don't blame the bats anymore, now its this cute and cuddly creature the Chinese traffic illegally more than any other species. To the point of near extinction.
