This is exactly how I pictured it in my mind’s eye.

I had me some analytics regarding baseball and young fans. We’ve all heard the narrative. Too long too slow

An old guy wants a good seat in a consistent location. The ADD generation doesn’t want to sit in the same seat no matter how good it may be. They want to move and socialize.

The kids want more of a club experience. Lotta parks building upper deck experiences. More bar and restaurant venues .

Kids want to be able to come to the park without a seat. They will hang out. Maybe they even notice there is a game. Probably over time they will fall in love with it.

Kind of reminds me of minor league parks. Always some playground for the kids. Effort is made to provide other activities during the game. Offer adult playgrounds.

This is more of an urban scenario. Boston, Cleveland, NY etc. Some IT coder gets out of work and meets his friends at the park after work for something different on a summer day.

Nobody is driving 3 hours to the site of a former ghetto for a good time. I mean not without their gun.

People have asked me many times if I feel unsafe at Dodger Stadium.

The answer is "not at all".

I sit in an area of the park which prices out all the gangbangers and other troublemakers (I also get a Jewish good deal on my seats, but that's not important here).

The area where I sit is racially mixed, but everyone is fairly well behaved for the most part.

On the way out, there's plenty of the ghetto element in the parking lot, but they're not interested in bothering me. I'm a middle-aged white guy wearing the same team's gear as they are. I'm not their rival in any way. I'm pretty much invisible to them.

Would I feel comfortable walking through the parking lot with Giants gear on? No. But since I'm always in Dodgers gear, it's no issue. If I were a Giants fan, I would take off the jersey and stuff it in a backpack before venturing out to the parking lot.

I love local crime reporters talking about sports:

"The Dodgers’ game against the Arizona Diamondbacks was apparently one of the longest ever, ending in the early hours of Saturday morning."

    Lol

I’ve sat in the bleachers many times for playoff games at Dodger Stadium. Sure it’s rowdy, but it’s nothing compared to an average NFL game in terms of fan behavior. The worst was when the 49ers played the Raiders at Candlestick. A fight would break out pretty much after every change of possession.

Dodgers are undefeated in games that Joe Kelly has not pitched.

Friedman could have used that $24m for security.

Even Molly Knight the Dodger author has joined the pig pile.

Red Sawks & Dodgers pitching is astoundingly bad. Fascinating and actionable.

Props to Druff for hitting that with Price

Friedman still hasn't learned that he's not in Tampa anymore.

He doesn't need to take chances with mid-salary "high upside" guys (which I don't even believe really describes Kelly anyway), which mostly end up blowing up in his face.

Either bargain-basement shop for nobodies and has-beens with some gas left in the tank, or spend some real money on reliable stars.

Friedman smartly turns down risky huge-money deals for players who might become an albatross for the organization, but then he wastes the saved money right back on shit players who contribute little.

Brandon McCarthy, Brett Andersen, Joe Kelly, etc.

He's been rescued by the fact that they've been able to pluck nobodies out of the woodwork who become big contributors, plus the farm system keeps producing good players years after year (Seager, Bellinger, Buehler, now perhaps Urias and Verdugo.)

But geez.. that Kelly signing was so infuriating.

braves signing acuna to 8/100 there are a couple of buyout options attached to the contract...

interesting move by acuna at his age to forgo some arb and FA years for a 100 milly guaranteed...he'll be the youngest player ever to sign a 100M contract...looks like great deal for the braves right now...not a ton of downside to pay 12M to a guy that put up his numbers in his first year...

Feels like panic selling on the part of the players.

Sawks Bogaerts 6/120 was cheap. He is a Scott Boras kid and he skipped the open market. Really?

$20m in 2025 sounds like a pittance unless you KNOW it isn’t.

If you read the tape you are being told what’s up. How could free agency drastically change in the future?

All these surprisingly underwhelming deals make the Kershaw new deal the last idiotic signing of this era.

think you might be onto something...

another argument is that players see that the free agent market is absolute dogshit unless you are the elite of the elite...keuchel and Kimbrel still unsigned? huh? debate all you want about them being good players, overrated, etc...but fact is that 5-10 years ago there is no fucking way players like that would still be on the open market to start the season...I mean hell even these high profile FA deals are getting signed very deep into the offseason...

stuns the hell outta me that the absolute strongest union in the sports world (by a longshot) is being played like this...if there is another labor contract signed that keeps this as the status quo, Manfred deserves to have his salary quintupled...would have NEVER thought that players would be signing deals that give up free agent years in their absolute prime...

Harper about to face the Nats for the first time.

They're already booing him at the on-deck circle!

Bryce looked overmatched and struck out.

This despite the fact that Scherzer didn't look particularly impressive against the previous two batters.

One hot night in late July the Philadelphia fans will boo him too.

Harper will be the first professional athlete who will be allowed a comfort animal on the field.

    Dodgers have a bullpen problem.

Jansen seems better this year, but the rest of the relief squad has been a disaster.

Max Muncy also seems to be reverting back to the player everyone thought he was prior to 2018. I was afraid that might happen.

Bellinger, on the other hand, has shaken off last year's mediocre season and is just mashing the ball. Pretty sure he's gonna be the NL Player of the Week.

Even when he gets out, it seems like he's not being fooled and hits the ball hard.

Seager hasn't looked particularly good yet, but perhaps it's just rust.

Now, the team is still 4-2. Things could be worse. They could be the 1-5 Sawks.
