Frankly, I don’t know yet whether the Dems will be able to avoid fielding a weak ticket because the establishment Dems still control most of the party and are fighting tooth-and-nail to keep progressives from gaining broader support among likely Democratic primary-eligible voters and control of state and local party offices.
But progessives are definitely going to gain seats in the House and some state offices this coming midterm. And as their message focusing on economic programs to help the struggling middle class gains a bigger audience, as well as avoid trying to use identity politics alone to win support from voters (which establishment Dems have been doing to avoid losing support among their own wealth donors), progessives will eventually become an unstoppable force within the party and beyond.
