Tell that to Ken Giles. The Oakland A's just embarrassed their entire pitching staff. Fuck em. Go Oakland!

Good spot for a movie recommendation.

    The Catcher Was A Spy

Moe Berg was a catcher (Sawks). Undergrad Princeton then Columbia. Got his law degree while starting baseball. Spoke 8 languages. Was a popular fixture on a knowledge type game show. Jewish and apparently gay.

Casey Stengel called him “the strangest man to ever play baseball.”

He was an enigma to everyone who played with him. Beginning with childhood, he adopted his closed stance toward people because he was a Jew and was gay.

I have always been aware that he was a fascinating character and was eventually involved in the OSS (precursor of the CIA). Never dug into it but happened upon this movie last night.

Never knew his mission turned out to be an attempted assassination of Werner Heisenberg who led the Nazi atom bomb race with the US.

Despite this movie’s script being written by the Saving Private Ryan guy the movie fell short of its potential. I still loved it for the crazy true story. It filled in a lot of gaps in my awareness.

There is another flick on Mo coming out next year, I hear.

    Highly recommend it.

He’s back to being worth $400 million

What was the first place prize money in the Derby?

Great question, sanlmar. Let me take a guess.

    Prolly nothing.

Jose Ramirez, JD Martinez, Judge, Stanton, Mookie Betts and Mike Trout.

This is the era of strike out or hit a dinger and this is what is served up.

What is this worth to ESPN? Sometimes I just want to see meaningful money plunked down and guys play heads up for something other than lulz.

Just once before it’s too late, $25 million heads up Tiger Woods vs Mickelson. No tears. The wagering would set records. The talk would be incredible.

The world might be spinning off its axis

The Dodgers to finally upgrade shortstop? Machado.

Actually taking a shot at post season success?

    Very un-Dodger like.

I still don’t accept this. Phillys.

It's hilarious that we as a society think everyone can be a dr, a lawyer, an engineer. Some people are just fucking stupid. Why can't we just accept that?

Excuse me. A guy who hasn't won anything in 5 years versus Phil Mickelson? What is this?

Golf is so sad that they gotta hang on to this guy until he just gives up. Sad,sad "sport".

Sadly this is probably the wrong year for it because:

    1) The 2018 Dodgers aren't as good as the 2017 Dodgers

    2) Kershaw isn't himself this year, due to injuries

    3) AL has 3 monster teams, and it's going to be hard to beat the AL in the World Series anyway

With that said, Dodgers have no top-flight prospects right now, so I don't really care if they part with players like Alex Verdugo.

Oakland has a better record than the Dodgers and they gotta play Seattle, Houston, Yanks and Boston. Fuck the Dodgers.

I mostly like Dave Roberts, but I don't understand what he did to Ross Stripling tonight.

It was the 10th inning, and he had Greinke, Jansen, and maybe someone else left.

Stripling had already pitched 2/3 of an inning.

He sent Stripling back out, who allowed a HR right away to fall behind 6-5.

He should've pulled Stripling right there, maybe thrown in Jansen, and then used Greinke if the game went on awhile.

Instead, he left Stripling out there to flail -- allowing another HR right away, followed by two more hits, followed by a sac fly. He let Stripling continue to pitch, and fortunately he got out without further damage.

Stripling will now go into the 2nd half remembering that he got clobbered and took the loss in the All Star Game.

This isn't a Max Scherzer type we're talking about. This is a guy who was a perpetual minor leaguer/role player who finally broke out this season. The last thing you want to do is shake is confidence.

    Mind boggling.

re: Stripling, he's not a thrower with outstanding stuff, but a pitcher with an assortment of good pitches (not great ones) that he can control, allowing him to attack hitters weaknesses; thus he relies on scouting reports of opposing hitters...but tonight, there were no scouting reports on any of the hitters, so mistakes were made by Stripling. He will be okay once the season resumes imho.

Sounds like he was still off the table, which is hilarious if what ive read of him is true. Supposedly a grade-A jackass. Would seem perfect for the Orioles.

I am working thru the Machado trade. Very un-Dodger like. It’s troubling. You could always rely on the Dodgers recently to try and be cute with value and dismiss positioning for post season.

I am acquainted with Dan Duquette. He lived near me at one time and his kid played with my kid one summer. I feel sorry for him at times. Why did he wait 2 months to deal? Was he thinking they had a shot in the AL East?

Conversely, why did Friedman wait? Machado might have been worth 3-4 games. I know, I know. Trying to be cute with value. Friedman lucked out as this journeyman lineup are having career years. Even he didn’t see that coming.

Druff rues the timing and offers Kershaw ain’t Kershaw now. Brother, it ain’t gonna get better than this for the distant future. Yes the Dodgers were better in prior years. They fucked up their window. You gotta take a shot now before the rebuild.

I always try to look at the bright side of life. Two things occur to me that have helped me cope with this trade.

First, (and I fucking love this) part of the value of getting superstars as rentals before free agency is that you can develop a comfort and familiarity that might tip Machado to giving LA last look during negotiations or a discount.

    Think Céspedes and the Mets

This is the payoff. Okay, now you got Corey Seager coming back sometime next year. Who knows what he will look like. Imagine the turmoil. Good times.

Also, you really have a platoon infield now. I think it’s a clown car. Bellinger spilling into the outfield lol. Machado at SS and journeyman Turner at 3rd. This prospect reminds me of Elvis Andrus SS and Adrian Beltre 3B

I’m not talking about the talent, be serious. I’m talking about the comedy between the two on defense. Beltre & Andrus were great and loved each other and were always pretending to argue and hate. They did it on the field. Gawd I loved Beltre.

The difference is that Machado and Turner won’t be joking. The embarrassment and hate will be real

My embed game is not on fleek but I have always loved this GIF. There are endless YouTube videos documenting Andrus/Beltre messing with each other while ball was in play. HOF
