AirBNB experiences and areas to avoid staying in Vegas

I will be in Vegas from June 6th - June 13th. Normally I’d just stay in a hotel however I’ll have my family with me (girlfriend, kids, my parents & her parents). I figured it would be cheaper for us just to rent a house using AirBNB. I’ve never used it before and just want to hear if anyone here has used it...in Vegas or any other places.

Not really looking to spend more than $1k, and I know there are some shady places west of the strip but don’t know the exact areas.

    Any advice is much appreciated.

Airbnb is interesting. Some experiences I have had are good, others not so much. I stayed in Colorado at an amazing place with huge kitchen, washer dryer, and great queen bed for the same price as the hotel across the street. Other experiences like the one I had recently, where I ordered in November a place and on March 10 she cancelled my place for my March 21st stay according to her because there was a "flood". I say that the reviews are the best barometer of the time you'll have and I would be weary renting a place with no reviews on the property, esp if you bringing a crew.

East of the strip is worse than west.

    Don't stay east.

As far as west goes, most of that is okay, but immediately west is also sketchy in some places.

Do not stay in North Las Vegas, or anywhere near downtown.

Keep in mind that most decent neighborhoods in Vegas are a bit of a drive away from the strip.

I cannot think of anything creepier than staying in some stranger's house I have no affiliation with. Nor could I think of anything creepier than some strange family rummaging through my fridge when I am not there. You know good full and well some teenage punk is going to be sniffing panties and putting boogers in food products.

    Get a couple hotels.

I honestly don't get the whole airbnb thing. The reason for going out of town is Hotel sex.

Gotta agree with bottomset here but for different reasons.

How many AirB&B's need to be busted for having secret cameras installed before this is no longer a thing?

Erin Andrews and many others would remind you that this isn't merely an Airbnb problem.

Another good point. Cameras. Unbelievably creepy. Also, you know for a fact there has been someone that has taken a turd and hidden it somewhere in the house. You really have to be dead broke to lease out your home for a weekend to a stranger.

As a plumber you should be more than equipped to handle this.

a few maps with the strip in black and acceptable areas in blue. southeast of strip is fine with plenty of gated communities and retirees. check street view of neighborhood for lack of upkeep or shitty cars. i know a couple with properties in AZ for rent. owners never live in rentals. they use VRBO.com exclusively, Vacation Rental By Owner. checking a house's available dates will show if a place is ever lived in. lv houses seem to have high cleaning fees. $1k is probably low. here is an example with enough bdrs for 3 couples and kids. is close to the Great Hall of the Monkey King.

“I believe the simplest explanation is, there is no God. No one created the universe and no one directs our fate. This leads me to a profound realization that there probably is no heaven and no afterlife either. We have this one life to appreciate the grand design of the universe and for that, I am extremely grateful.”
