very talented guy, super tough but apparently without the roids he did in Pride he isnt reliable. While it was a terrific fight Shogun looked like shit. Machida looked ridiculously good and is the obvious choice for the title shot. The sub plot is easy to sell as well, the only guy who was beating bones while standing gets another crack at the title.

Peter, any chance it's a breathing problem with Shogun? Does he forget to breathe while in the excitement of trying to finish? Could he be like Wanderlei who's nasal cavity was so smashed inside that he can't breathe properly with his mouthpiece in? I know you train in this & is why I'm asking.
I'm at a loss how someone could gas so quickly. It can't be not being in shape @ this level. I understand the roid comment but there's got to be more to it than that. He was gassed & should have finished it in the first round.

I honestly think he comes in out of shape, his body doesnt look good. I feel like he could probably make 185. In pride him and wandy were juiced up, looking muscular, fit and never gassing. Shogun is tough enough and talented enough to stay at the top despite his cardio issues but man, what a waste of immense talent.

Its hard to get up for a fight against Vera, especially at his age, but then again he always gases early, but always seems to get a 2nd wind. Machida looked really good and he definetly poses a bigger threat to JJ. I dont think anyone wants Shogun/JJ 2 it was a slaughter at least machida was doing well in the 1st round against him. It's really annoying when these wrestlers work on striking for a few years and they think they can stand with anyone. Bader looked awful, and his gameplan was worse.

Shitty card on paper, but some great fights thats usually how it works.

    Shogun's like 30. Vera's 34. Surprising but true.

looked to me like Bader was trying to fight Machida like Shogun did, problem with that is he doesnt have the skill set to make it work. I really dont think any game plan was going to help Bader, he was losing that fight no matter what.

I keep seeing this everywhere I read about mma. Why does everyone seem to think that Henderson has no chance against Jones? Yes Jones is younger, faster, and possibly more well rounded, but he has never been in the cage with someone who has the power and the chin that Henderson has. It will only wake one good shot on the chin after a missed spinning elbow for there to be a new champ. Dan may be at only around a 30% chance of winning, but he can win and I hope he wins.

I love hendo, but he has to hope JJ trains with Bisping for this fight and works on circling towards his right hand. Can he hope to get close enough and catch him with a punch its possible but far from a 30% chance. Jones reach is to much for wrestlers turned boxers. He just wont be able to get close enough. Hendo fought Shields for the sf belt and lost he fought A Silva for the UFC mw belt and lost. He won a split decision over Franklin that Franklin should have won and that would have been 3 losses in his last 4 fights. Hes since rebounded with alot of wins, but I remember there was talk if he lost to Franklin he would retire. Even if he did score a 1 punch ko JJ would get an immediate rematch and lighting would have to strike twice.

30% chance at winning is awful generous IMO. I think Bones is going to pick him apart and win with ease. Love Hendo but people are getting carried away, Jones has him beat in every aspect of the game.

I think 30% is fair. Jones will be faster than Henderson, but Dan has the ability to take the punishment needed to get inside against Jones. I think that is where Dan's chance will lie. I also believe that if Jones gets sloppy when he tries all of his fancy showoff strikes that he will catch a hard shot to the chin. I can actually see a scenario also where you will see Dan get on the inside and take Jones down instead of trying to stand.

if not for his showing against machida, i could say with absolute honesty that the last time shogun impressed me was against arona.

shogun suffered some horrific injuries and subsequent downtime. i think you can attribute his fall from grace to that more than roids, but i dont consider it an either/or equation really.

regarding hendo, jj has slow first rounds, and hendo will show up in crafty vettor mode and may create an exploitable opening. i dont like his chances beyond round 1 tho, jj just looked too comfortable in the 25th minute against evans. the smart money would be on jj in the third but i seriously wont blink for round 1.
