Funny, I was about to say some of the best baseball for me as of late has been via radio.....Vancouver Canadians (single A) broadcasts are very good. It's all about theatre of the mind....blah, blah, blah. Baseball is a bit like golf, if you're into it i.e. playing it, then it's addictive.

Number of runs the Giants scored against the Dodgers this weekend:
First time since 1957 that the Dodgers have shut out the Giants twice in a row while in the Giants' home park.
Yes, I realize the Dodgers got shut out 3 times in a row last time they visited SF, but they had no Kemp, no Ethier, and basically fielded a minor league lineup.
Anyway, good job, Giants. Chunked off a 3-game lead while facing the Dodgers on your home field. You could have been 6 games up if the series went the other way.
Relax, it wasn't too long ago the Giants were 6 games back.
We didn't have Pablo this series, and Either did in fact play in all 3 games when the G's shut them out, so not sure what you mean there.
The momentum has switched back to LA, and $$$ the new ownership is willing to spend has drawn first blood, I'll give you that, but there is still 60 to go, and 9 games heads up, Pablo will be back and SF's pitching is still better.

Sweeping the hated Giants (and first place team) to move into a first place tie is no small victory. Especially when they did it in San Francisco.

LA's bats are better for sure, and SF pitching probably is, but the difference between the bats is much bigger than the dif in pitching, so if you could get action today, I could see why LA would be favored.

I would say the Angels improved the most so far, simply by adding Grienke at a moderate price, but the Dodgers are a close second. a top 5 in the order of Victorino, Ellis, Kemp, Ethier, Ramirez can be solid enough to win in the playoffs. I still think the D'Backs are gonna be in it til the end though, and I'm not sure any west team will get a wild card. Should be fun to watch.

Many times in these scenarios, teams make the waiver claim merely as a way to block a potential trade to a competing team. With high-priced aging veterans, this can backfire as, again, the old team can just award you the claim and you have to take the player.
This happened a couple times to the White Sox in the last 5 years with Alex Rios and Manny Ramirez. Rios has worked out well for them, and they may have actually wanted him. Ramirez they certainly didn't, and were just trying to block a trade.

Dodgers took 2 of 3 from the slipping Marlins, but more importantly sprayed over 10 hits in each of the three games.
Victorino, who I always felt was overrated, isn't going to make much of an impact. Blanton is an innings-eater, and will really only serve to avoid the Dodgers having to use a minor league pitcher du jour to fill the 5th pitching spot.
Hanley Ramirez is looking pretty good so far, and you can tell that he's enjoying his new team. That's important for an emotional player like Hanley.
Giants are finally hitting, so the Dodgers are going to have to play some pretty good baseball to win the division. I think it's going to be a close race to the finish.
