The head of Puerto Rico's government power company says the agency will scrap a $300 million contract with Whitefish Energy Holdings once it finishes current work on Hurricane Maria recovery efforts.
Power company director Ricardo Ramos said Sunday that he's bowing to a demand by the U.S. territory's governor, Ricardo Rossello. Ramos says the cancellation will delay work by 10 to 12 weeks.
From what I've gathered, it's apparently fairly standard for contracting companies to file mostly 1099s, and "no-bid" actually means that there just wasn't a formal public process. 5 other companies were in contention, but they all wanted payment up front because PR is corrupt and insolvent. Whitefish was the only company that would accept payment after completion.
So millions of people are going to live without electricity for another 3 months because of political grandstanding? What does the governor stand to gain from doing this?

Anyhow, Nostradamus predicted the US would torture detainees while fighting Israel's wars long before Abu Ghraib. One speech from Dershowitz and Pierce knew torture was going to become US policy. It's pretty crazy how accurate his predictions have turned out. The things he mentions are just as relevant today as they were on 2002.
