Also interviewed an acquaintance who saw his massive gun collection a couple of years ago. He told the acquaintance it was every citizens right to have any and all guns. Then he goes on a rampage and proves why no one should be able to stockpile weapons of mass destruction. I don't know if he really made 5 mill from gambling or just flipped real estate which sounds more plausible. Just makes no sense he seemed to have everything and snapped. It wasn't overnight a lot of planning went into all this . He crossed every t and dotted every i. Just mind boggling.

IRS records show that the Las Vegas gunman was a successful gambler, earning millions of dollars in 2015, according to an article published today by NBC News.

Stephen Paddock, who killed at least 58 people and injured more than 500 this week when he opened fire on a crowd of festival attendees on the Las Vegas strip, earned at least $5 million in 2015, the report said. The report noted that most of that income came from gambling, although some could have come from other investments.

The investigation by law enforcement also raised questions about whether Paddock was staying alone in his hotel room, NBC reported. Investigators found a charger that did not appear to belong to any of Paddock's phones, the report said. They also found that one of Paddock's key cards was used to enter his room after his car apparently had left the hotel garage.

The New York Times reported earlier this week that Paddock was not well known among Las Vegas's high stakes gambling crowd, though he would occasionally make tens of thousands of dollars in a single sitting. Because of his prolific gambling, Paddock was staying at the Mandalay Bay Hotel free of charge last weekend, The Times reported, citing a source familiar with Paddock's history.

Law enforcement in Las Vegas were not available to comment Friday afternoon. Officials also did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment.

If I was an investigative journalist, that's the thread I would start tugging on. Once you establish that he had a discreet income that cant be explained, suddenly the kill chain to radicalization becomes a lot less obtuse.

Eg he doesnt like who he's being told to sell arms to and knows hes getting sanctioned if he stops or goes public.

That's super fertile grounds for radicalization.

But yeah if you find tax cashout sheets for his winnings at casinos that match those numbers, this gets a lot less interesting.
It is possible to make a nice living playing video poker, but I don't think it is possible to make anywhere near 5 million.

Seriously, lets put this in perspective; he would have to win $13,600 EVERY SINGLE DAY without taking a break to clear 5m.

Thats way beyond rungood. If he liquidated some properties, ok that could explain it, but really.. 5m at video poker, I dont think so.

He reported 5 million from jackpots boys, he didn't net 5 million in profit. Being a former accountant/IRS agent he knew the rules about record keeping. They require you to report your daily wins/losses including jackpots of $1200 or more. Playing $125 a pop only requires you hitting trips to get a w2g. So there is your answer.

Okay well this makes a lot more sense. 5million in jackpot payouts is obviously nowhere near 5 million in profits. Very misguiding for newspapers to report that he made 5 million dollars last year. That would be like them saying a poker tourney pro made 1million last year because he had 1 million in cashes, even though his buyins were more than 1 million.

This guy could easily make as many trips necessary back & forth and no one would pay him any attention.

Wife & I will be in Vegas next weekend and for the first time in a long time I'm staying off strip. May be stupid but this shit has me freaked. Not enough to cancel though.... my gambling addiction is strong.
You can't get into an elevator lobby without being carded. Security at entrance to pools and all other entrance exit.

My guess is the effort is unsustainable and has little real value. $100 room gets you the run of the place.

I haven't seen anyone get aggressive or disorderly. I imagine they would get smashed now - no mercy.

Absolutely none of the players talk about the event at the tables or whatever. The locals do in the Arts District or Container Park and such. VegasStrong is kind of a thing.

Spent more time behind the Stratosphere in that neck of the woods. The marijuana biz is fully evident with construction etc. Met some marketing guys working in that biz. Fascinating.

Life goes on. Prolly no safer place on earth now.

Sanlmar. Agreed. Have stayed everywhere, Venetian, Wynn, Belaggio, etc and they’ve always had security checking room cards at all elevators.

But fwiw, not Mandalay Bay. No matter the time I went up those elevators without ever seeing security. And no swiping room keys to get to my floor.

    Interesting stat:

2+2 thread about this: 12 pages, 20k views

PFA thread: 50 pages, 29k views

    This definitely isn't the 2+2 of 2007.

Probably because there's no political talk allowed in that thread, which would have been 90% of it.

Not sure why druff or Brandon haven't explained this, or I missed that post, but he provably has 5 mil (or close to it) in write offs.

an example would be find a 99 % payback,
figure out how to make 2 % on club card cash,
    play perfect video poker,
so they play at 101 % payback............and just rack up comps.

They can't hide the money as easy as a poker or BJ player as they get W-2's for jackpots.

Shackleford said, if players stay true to a perfect strategy — one designed to maximize their performance over the long haul, such as by getting rid of potentially decent cards like low pairs to increase chances of a big-payout royal flush — their luck will turn, based on statistics, and they'll break even or come close to it.
When you add in the freebies from the casino, the player can come out ahead.
"Vegas is full of people that are basically just gambling for free," Shackleford said. "I think the shooter was one of these people who was basically milking the system, getting free vacations."
