But why? Your +EV here at this point. You're basically betting on getting a better hand within 2 orbits... I'm not going to do the math but I'd be willing to guess the proper play is shove or bet/call shove.

There is nothing to be said, it doesn't make sense from a math or just general poker standpoint.

Lol some really stupid low-level discussion in this thread, including from todd - but basically the optimal shove range with 13 bbs from the hijack against latter positions which OP classified as "nits" is something like any pair, any ace, K2s+/K5o+, Q6s/Q7o+, J7s/J8o+, T7s/T8o+, and a lot of suited connectors/gappers down to something like 75s. I won't really go into the math behind why we should be shoving like 50% of our range, but basically the argument goes something like we stand to increase our stack by ~20% from the guys folding, which happens most of the time vs nits. Obviously this range will need to be adjusted if there's shortstacks or loose callers to act behind you or if we're near the bubble/pay jump. You should never be raise/folding here under any circumstance, and raise/calling should be done with just top 3-4% or so of your range. Shortstack game is always very straightforward based on shoving with top x% of your range based on your perceptions that the opponent calling range will be y%, and I guess gol can come back with some jokes about why Asians have such high IQ's - but it does amaze me how Golin and Todd can't really do math based on their ethnicity as the world's leading physicists and mathematicians are definitely Jewish.

This isn't just a math problem. I agree you should never raise/fold, but if raise/call is more likely to induce a shove from a worse hand, there is an advantage to raising instead of shoving. The shove is actually more correct with some of the weaker hands you mentioned, because in those cases, you really don't want a call.

Any ace or jack will stack off against you if you flop either of those. There is also a fair chance you can take it on the flop if you miss against 1 opponent and the board comes dry.

I would rather raise/call with AJo and take my chances on getting outflopped if the blind just flat, than shoving and either collecting the blinds (which i would pay again 5 hands later) or getting called and being never ahead.

As I said, I can understand shoving the AJ -- I'm not saying it's wrong -- but to classify raise/call as not an option is incorrect.

If we are talking 10 BB instead of 13 BB, then yes, I am shoving AJ every time there.
