Yes, yes and yes. No matter how broken I was over losing Miki, I am so grateful my hubby made me get a puppy. It's time, Jasep. It will change your life. Of course no dog is going to be as close to you and as special as the one you lost. I get that... But the new puppy will steal your heart and be special and fantastic in his own way. And you won't regret it. Rescue a dog this week. Do it.

this might sounds harsh. why do you keep referring to it as 'rescuing'?

I don't know - that's just what they call it. I guess it makes people feel noble or something. If anything, the animal rescues YOU. But it's not free. There's no such thing as a free pet. Along with the standard 'adoption fees,' you also shell out money for their medical care, spaying, grooming, toys and food, and it aint cheap. But it's the best money you'll ever spend. I'd say altogether, with the two dogs and now the two cats, it's about $1000 a year. (I buy the best foods though so yours might be cheaper.) But when you think about all the love and laughter they bring into your life, that is nothing. NOTHING.

It is a bit like a rescue though when the fate of the animal without you in the picture is bleak. Sasha-Bear was "for sale" by a family in Casa Grande who didn't know shit about breeding or puppies. She was a purebred, but there were no AKC papers. The family was moving, spoke very little English, and wanted $300 for each puppy. But they did not want to keep the puppies with the mother for the standard minimum of 8 weeks. This is very detrimental to the puppies. We drove out to see her, afraid of what we were going to find because the price was so low. The mother dog was there - she was filthy and matted and the father was locked in the back yard, equally unkempt - stuck out in the heat. It was not a good scene. We gave them the money up front and begged them to hold the pup with her mother a bit longer but they refused. So I took Sashi home at 5 weeks, and fed her raw goat's milk from a local farm to try and supplement the nutrients and antibodies she should have received from her mother's milk. I also tried to socialize her as best I could, but there's no substitute for the mother's training and the nips and responses from litter mates. Sasha came out fine, although she is very slow to warm up to strangers and very possessive. The point is I guess that you rescue them, and they rescue you. Like the line in Pretty Woman - LMFAO.

when you get a dog from a rescue foundation thats what it's called, rescuing them. I think she refers to it that way because it's the standard lingo. Both my mutts are rescue dogs, $100 total for the two of them, best money I ever spent.

With the exception of my basset, the best dogs that i've ever had were mutts and strays. It's almost like they are thankful for any bit of attention or affection that you show them because they know what could have happened to them.

I think another positive is that there is generally very little inbreeding so mutts tend to be very hardy dogs. Both of my girls have had very little health issues in their lives, they are bright easy to train working breeds and like you said, it seems like they are so appreciative to have a nice home.

Every time I go out in the back yard, the dogs come dashing out with me - they just love to be near you wherever you go. But now Clooney Kitty has started coming out as well. He likes to run out and sniff all the rocks in the back yard while I am out there - the dogs just curl up on the patio area and stay close, withstanding the heat. When it's time to go in, the puppies immediately run back in to the cool of the house, close at my heels... At first, George Clooney would remain outside on his own and come in later through the doggie door. But now he zooms back inside with the dogs - basically following me wherever I tread as if he was a canine. Goddamn cute. Makes doing radio a bitch though.

Sat what? I had a pure ridgeback without the ridge, he (obv) wasn't put down when he was born. Granted, he was several $100 cheaper. I'll have to check the vid when I have more time on my hands.
