interesting aside i read about recently...

some larger companies, especially those with executives in countries where kidnapping is a major concern are buying up btc in case of a kidnapping as this is the only form of payment some of these kidnappers are accepting

If anyone cares re: the most heavily active times of the market I ran the data.

I used all margin coins from poloniex as well as a couple other random coins.

Overall I observed 88466511 transactions and at which hour UTC they occur. After translating everything to EST for you scum bags still living on the east coast, the most heavily traded time is between 5am and 7am. This is 4am and 6am when accounting for daylight savings time. 7am until about 1pm sees the most consistently high trading period, but about 60% of the transactions and volume for the day occur between 5am and 7am as stated above.

Im curious if anything has ever jumped out at you related to specifically what I assume is a youngish urban professional investor pool? Dips before weekends? Dips fueled by rent due? Dips fueled by tuition due? Rises on school loan disbursements? Obviously what I'm seeing is American-centric. It's entirely possible what I'm seeing on message boards are simply vocal small holders and that Asian and Wall Street types offset any bumps or dips that might be influenced by young American investors.

I have only recently scraped the data I have and I'm still collecting. When I get more free time I plan to analyze it all a bit more. Visually one particular trend I have noticed is that typically before a massive up swing there is typically, a couple days to a week before, a much smaller up swing that appears to be low volume acquisition of a coin. We think this may be developers coming in to buy more coins prior to an announcement.

The details escape me at the moment but if you look at Factom you can see a good example of this. You'll see a small burst followed by leveling out followed by a massive run.

Something odd is afoot.. BTC is ranging mid 2500s-low 2600s. Eth has dropped into the mid 200s and now suddenly LTC is the flavor of the month now sitting over $50..

Have you looked into Coinmama.. Yes you're going to pay a slight premium above Coinbase price but they have a pretty solid willingness to sell once you verify.. Right now I'm good for up to 50k I think (not that I can or would buy that much)

Thanks for the reply. They charge a fee of 6.75% so I can't use them if I want to make a profit. But in desperate situations I could see a use for them just to keep the doors open.

If anyone wants to sell some of their bitcoin for a cash deposit into their bank, let me know via PM. Druff will be escrow. I will pay Druff for his services, 1% of total transaction which he can use for freeroll or pocket it. $5000 minimum. Thanks.

Alphabay may have closed shop and pilfered all its users wallets:

    http://www.ibtimes.com/alphabay-offl...scheme-2561562

apparently DHS busted a major seller last month and may have used that sellers access to pivot into the site's infrastructure. although the sites gone dark before, this time the wallets associated with it have had about $3.8m in btc dispersed to smaller wallets, which is traditionally what one sees in an exit scam.

shit aint looking good in any case.

Anyone here about bitcoins chain split possibly on August 1st? I'm not highly familiar with all the bitcoin lingo but a friend brought this to my intention. Wasn't the last split pretty profitable for people owning bitcoin?

Here is an article about it.
