What exactly have I done to kill my rep?

I stand by what I said, and this thread is a decent example of what I was talking about.

To be clear I love your work. Message board grinder is still one of my favourite videos of all time. My comment was more along the lines of you having a history of making questionable decisions (some issues aroudn quad jacks, inflating views on youtube, joining micon etc.).

Chosing to make such a comment above about wanting to distance yourself from the old donkdown is a stupid move when Micon is trying (albeit you probably can;t tell based on his effort) to get all the old guys from the band back together. You also haven;t been around very long but such comments similar to yours have been said before and always met with very negative results.

If you really had a problem with donkdown's past you probably should have never joined to begin with.

I'm also in the camp that micon is going to use the fuck out of you. But at this point I don't care. Everyone knows what he is about. If people want to align with micon that is ok by me at this point.

First of all, thanks for the kind words.

What can I say, I'm active in a lot of communities that I hate certain aspects of. I can't stand many of the yuppie liberal neckbeards on Reddit, but I still read it almost every day. 2+2 is full of knee-jerky self-righteous moral police, but I still read and post there a lot. You guys spend an inordinate amount of time obsessing over jsearles and Micon and snakes in the grass, or whoever it is fashionable to hate at the time - or conversely, nut hugging whoever is the GOD de jour. Yet here I am.

Despite the worst they have to offer, all these communities have redeeming qualities. So I take the good with the bad. I merely stated that I don't like that particular aspect of the culture, and it initially made me reluctant to participate, but I'll still accept it if it persists.

I won't deny that I have a history of making poor decisions. At least I've learned from them. You'll never hear about me moving in with Micon for 9 months and working 60-hour weeks on a volunteer basis. I'm still finding my way, figuring out what I want to do with my life. I'll probably make more mistakes along the way, but I'm optimistic that I'll make it somehow. Despite some of the fuckups, I've accomplished some cool things in the last few years.

BTW, one of the biggest fails of 2.0 that nobody mentions is the fact that the image gallery and all the links are fuct and gone. The whole point of a message board's gallery or album feature is so links don't get broken or censored, and you don't have to worry about a 3rd party taking pics down.

I would have at least downloaded all my pics first if I knew they were gonna fuck shit up so bad over there.

I like how Peter Mcneil called me a "forum workhorse". I guess that's a compliment.

It is true that, as a forum owner, you really need to generate your own content if you want it to stay active. This doesn't apply to gigantic forums like 2+2, but for smaller ones like PFA, it's definitely true.

Not only do you have to generate content, but you also have to come up with content that your reader base will find interesting. I think I'm pretty good at doing that. Obviously I come up with "misses" at times, but for the most part my discussion topics get people talking, even when they don't agree with me.

I also think it's important to treat your userbase with respect. This includes both your general attitude toward your userbase, as well as wanting to provide them with a pleasant experience on the site.

I've also learned from some past mistakes, and have tried to incorporate what I've learned into how I run this site.

definite compliment, you interact on a consistent basis with your constituents, come up with interesting threads and monitor the forums. Micon appears to just recognize now how important it is, too little too late I do believe.

I agreed with your decision, as Moose really didn't give you any choice in the matter. Frankly he was expecting to get a nap and was willing to do so if the thread got locked, which it did.

At the end of the day, it was a successful act of forum civil disobedience.
