Do you have to buy tags for Tuna? Last time I was in NS it was too rough for the boats to go out but I talked with a guy about his setup. He pulled in an insane amount of money for a Tuna but the cost of his boat and gear combined with the fishing regulations made it a tough job.

Honestly I have no idea; there are quite a few different species that fall under the 'tuna' mantle and I expect each have different regs. I just want to stock up on fresh, unfarmed salmon filets.

The regulations for unfarmed salmon are pretty strict out east too. We have a place on the Mirimachi and every inch of the river is divided up into permits. The only way we can legally fish in our backyard is with a specific guide who owns the permit.

The Mirimachi is a notoriously protected river tho, its literally famous. For atlantic salmon its one of the top two or three rivers on the planet. I dont even think you can fish there without a guide with a license specifically granted to fish beats on it.

Also there is farmed, stocked, and wild salmon. Stocked and wild salmon both migrate to the ocean to feed and come into fresh water to spawn. Wild taste great. Stocked taste ok. Farmed are literally toxic. I cant harvest _any_ wild salmon from Puget Sound or its tributaries to my knowledge (grain of salt that) but I can harvest a certain number of stocked fish, depending on how negotiations go with the tribes. Stocked fish, btw, have a clipped adipose fin, thats how you tell the difference.

And seriously I cant even begin to tell you how amazing it is that you have a place on the Mirimachi. Does it have frontage? Does that grant you access to fish the river?

It's a great drone as far as it's easy to use, does what it advertises, etc.

I personally would save a couple hundred and get the Advanced instead of the Peofessional. The only difference is the Professional shoots in 4K and the Advanced does 1080P.

    I have the Advanced.

Agree with this and they turn into the same scrap pile when you blast it into the ground or disappears forever.

Just got the DJI Phantom 4.

Apparently the latest version of their app is a huge fail. Haven't tried it yet because it's dark outside.

Will try tomorrow provided it's not too windy.

    Will report back.

I will definitely put a label on it with my info.

I flew it yesterday. Clouds were rapidly approaching. Rain came after about 20 minutes and I had to quickly land it and run to the car. (You're not supposed to fly it in rain.)

    My impressions:

    - A little bit hard to control at first, but I got used to it and seem to be improving

    - When it got really high or far, to where it was difficult to see, it scared me. I felt uncomfortable flying it "blind" using just a map and its own camera. I assume I will get more used to it.

    - I was very paranoid that it would crash and hit something or someone. Next time I may fly it over a nature landscape type area so at least I don't have to worry about anything but the drone itself.

    - The DJI Quickstart pamphlet it a fail and left out various things I had to do to get it going. I found a website by a third party which was much better.

    - I learned the hard way that you have to do everything before taking it out and make sure it's 100% ready to take off before actually taking it outside. I was standing in the park awhile signing up for accounts, doing calibrations, etc.

    - I got a weird fear of heights going on when I saw it way up in the air, but it's probably more attached to my fear it was going to fall down and hurt someone or something.

    - The DJI app got a lot of criticism but I didn't find it that bad. I will give it credit that it's easy to return the drone home and to auto land/take-off, and that they have sufficient guards that you don't do it accidentally. It's not very user friendly, but I am figuring it out.

    - Is there a way to turn your iPhone horizontally in the controller case? It was tough tilting my head sideways to see everything.

I didn't get to do anything cool with it yesterday because I was learning, and this weekend will have poor weather to where I can't do it.

It's possible I can do it on Sunday.

Overall, despite the criticism above, I am excited to try it again.

Someone suggested I use an iPad to fly it instead of an iPhone.

    Would anyone recommend this?

I'm afraid the whole thing will be too bulky.

As far as the controller case, there should be a button you can depress that extends the grips for your cell phone, and then you fold down the two little tiny plastic pieces that act as a holder. Set your phone and clamp down until secure, and that should keep you in landscape mode, unless I misunderstood your question.

Yes you're correct. Was much better this way.

    Flew it today.

Took it to a wide open nature area with hills and mountains.

No concern about rain, but there was some moderate wind and I was afraid to take it past a certain hill (one which is maybe 120 feet higher than where I was standing) because of potential wind over the ridge.

Later (after I wore my battery down) I hiked up there and it turned out my fears about the wind were unfounded.

The 22mph wind limit kinda freaks me out, because I know from being a skier how the wind can whip up over ridges or as you gain altitude (though admittedly, the altitude gain is only likely to be about 400 feet max).

For some reason I thought I went pretty far, but when I got back home and watched the videos, it looked like I didn't really go where I thought I did.

I also learned about flying "for the video", meaning you don't spin the camera around pointlessly or sit around hovering, or the video is kinda tilting to watch. Yes, I know I can edit it, but at home I just wanted to see the damn thing zoom over the landscape and I kept getting frustrated when I noticed myself stop or play with the camera angle.

On a calm day I will try to take the thing pretty far and use it to explore the mountain.

The Phantom 4 also has a "track a moving object" which could be cool, though a car is probably too fast to track, and a person walking is probably too tedious to track, so I'm not sure how I'll use it. Maybe I'll track myself walking, but that sounds like a boring video.

I put a sticker tonight with my name and phone # on it, for future flights.

I wish there were a way to track it if it were to crash somewhere out in the hills where people aren't likely to find it. I guess the best you can do is see the last video it took and its last map coordinates.

There are tons of super cheap GPS chips you can get for this. People stash them in bikes, cell phones, so on.
