They also are setting up an association, and not a union....which is odd because the only way you really get to lever demands are via a threat of a work stoppage, therefore threatening UFC profits. If workers under an org aren't under an official union, they are still considered independent contractors and are not protected under the NLRB and can be fired and/or sued without repercussions.
Also, when you form a union vs a sports entity like the UFC which I think has anti-trust protections, you can also threaten to disband the union and sue as a group, forcing the dispute to go to an arbitrator, who can then "open the books" on the employer to determine what a potential "slicing of the baby" settlement would be. This is a tactic that saved the 2011 NFL season, as soon as the NFLPA did this, the owners of the league caved to some of the players' demands because they wanted no part of their (nepotistic) business doings open to the public.
I do support the lads as the UFC is fucking them over big time, but he's not really the guy to do it IMO. Also the fact there's 3 MMA fighters associations isn't the kind of solidarity you need to force the needle on pay (Reebok), better working conditions (USADA), etc. Look up how the NFL QB Club (an association of 40 of the top paid QBs in the league) was a big factor in the 1987 NFL strike, as not only was there infighting b/t the league and the players, but b/t the players themselves which almost costed the league an entire year.

Chuck Liddell and Matt Hughes have been let go by these new goons running UFC. They had decent positions with the company and I remember them saying several times that Dan Henderson could have got a similar job for years too making some good money if he only would have retired before it got sold.
