You also say that you were trying to book a $3000 bet with 1000 to 1 odds. I can guarantee that nobody would give an absolute stranger that kind of action. If you were say a Phil Hellmuth or a Daniel Negreanu yes you would have gotten action, but to a career gambler that bet sounds too good to be true and I am sorry to say this but it would seem like a scam to them.
