That's the new thing they're doing -- shutting down freeways.
It happened in Inglewood (near Los Angeles) yesterday, and happened in Oakland a few days before that. In fact, the Oakland one took awhile to clear, and everyone on the freeway was trapped.
There need to be new laws immediately creating a felony out of intentionally impeding traffic on a public roadway, and then start arresting people for it. That will stop this nonsense quickly.

Only a matter of time before someone dies as a direct result of one of these freeway shutdowns, the scenarios are easy to come up with.
Ambulance with critical patient can't get to hospital in time, patient dies. Protesters start the march on a blind corner of the freeway, semi doesn't see them in time, kills a dozen on his way through (go get em mumbles). Semi plows into minivan with a family of 6 inside, didn't see the minivan stopping for protesters, all 6 die. Pissed off motorist at the front of the backup starts honking his horn, protesters decide to go Reginald Denny on him. Or flip his car over, his convertible roof doesn't hold up, breaks his neck and dies, etc etc etc.
TBH, charging a felony on these shutdowns seems excessive, but how much does it cost to get the freeway going again? I'd guess thousands of dollars in PD/Highway Patrol man hours, and if an accident like I mentioned before happens, well we're in felony $$ amount territory.
I'm all for being able to protest. Just do it the right way. Get a permit, demonstrate peacefully in a public area that doesn't affect the infrastructure, and go nuts. The news will be there, guaranteed, even if you held it in an obscure spot. Shutting down freeways, light rail, or police stations is asking for trouble. I'm guessing a felony charge for folks who shut down freeways will put an end to it quickly.
