Well, it was speculated on & denied by GSP that he was leaving the sport before the Hendricks fight & that's exactly what happened so you have to take that with a grain of salt.

no fighter in his right mind would ever admit to even considering retirement before a fight like this.

Man for such a bunch of 'sharps' you all sure as hell are missing the biggest tell of all. That no rematch is even really being talked about.

More is being made of Connor moving divisions after this fight. The UFC talking about McGregor going for the belt in a different weight class does lend some credence to maybe some unknown situation about Aldo. And him not being around after this fight which would also be bigger draws and paydays for McGregor @155. Very little talk of any possible rematch which is odd for such a long awaited and big match. And the talk of Connor moving after this fight (either way) does kind of lend to maybe something going on, like Aldo leaving and their being no real big payday matchups for McGregor at 145 like there is at 155.

Because the only matchup that really makes sense in a fight this big is a rematch. No matter who wins. And that is apparently not even being mentioned. That if anything would make me think their is some value in Aldo possibly retiring after this fight more than anything else.

And now he says he "rules out retirement" after UFC 194

I read it as a great business move by McGregor. If he gets is ass kicked, or even loses to Also, he can move up to the next weight class. He can then have some success and claim he had just been in the wrong weight class the whole time. If he loses the Aldo fight (especially badly) he basically is ranked 4th or 5th at best in the division. If he lost two in a row in that division (for example fought Mendes again or Edgar which i think is extremely likely) he would go from the penthouse to the outhouse faster than any UFC fighter in history.

garrett: great point its win/win and he seemed real flashy on the reality show. He don't like the outhouse.

Pettis vs McGregor at 155 would be a huge fight; Cowboys vs McGregor would be decent as well; Dos Anjos vs McGregor maybe not so much to the casuals.

it really depends how/if Conor loses.

if jose picks his bum ass apart or (less likely) finishes him, he has no draw at all at 155 vs anyone.

arguably, if he decisions aldo, his draw at 155 is also going to be marginal.

That said, if Conor wins and faces Pettis, Pettis will a truck filled with smaller trucks filled with money.

I'm sorry but this is mong level logic. I can't think of a single fight where people ever were talking about a rematch before the initial fight happened....

As for Aldo retiring find that hard to believe. Of course he is never going to admit it but very few top level mma fighters retire before 30....

Khabib out of TUF Finale on the 11th.

And replacing him vs Tony Ferguson is Edson Barboza.

Ive spent the last 5 minutes staring at this window trying to come up with words to describe how amazing this fight might be and I just cant

Like seriously what the fuck how in gods name are we getting all these fights out of the blue

    Conor v Aldo
    Weidel v Rothhold
    Romero v Jacare
    Barboza v Ferguson

If those headlined a years worth of cards, it would be a very good year. And those are taking place over the course of like 24 hours.

    AND Ronda got destroyed.

Best year of MMA since Pride folded.

I like the Weidel slip, but the Rothhold use is over my head.
