Not much imo.
It was a pretty good gamble by the kids. There was little risk their scholarships would get whacked. Would have created a recruiting nightmare for Missouri when pursuing top prospects.
My experience with college athletes is that they don't give a shit about much beyond their own bad self. They are playing to keep their scholarship and get noticed. It's what they HAVE to do.
You go to a weight room where multiple sports, say baseball and football, are present and you will not sense a lot of love. There is a little jealousy and rivalry. Selfishness is impossible to avoid - you gotta be focused. To see these Missouri players taking this stand in this day and age is pretty remarkable.
NCAA thoughts while shaving:
The NFL rules changes have made the league so quarterback-centric. You cannot win unless you have an elite quarterback.
These changes have killed the goal of NFL parity. Fuck you, Roger Goodell. There are two very distinct leagues this year. It's as if one is triple A and its unwatchable. This undefeated pehenomenon bore this out.
Parenthetically, the NFL will defend fantasy sports to the death because they see what I see.
NFL needs a pipeline of NFL ready quarterbacks. Manzeil, RG3, Mariotta, to name a few, are not that. But that shit wins in college. In college, the stakes are too high and if the athletic kid wins running amok you don't change the game plan.
So why doesn't the NFL align their billions with college? Teams partner with particular colleges and formalize the farm system. The win now at any cost college mentality is reigned in by big dollar NFL.
