I mean look, Rumble got destroyed because he has 3 minutes of gas. I dont see it going Rumble-badly.

The scenario thats keeping me from loading on Gus is what happens when Cormier gets him against the fence. IMO every single time Gus has his back against the fence, its going to be Cormiers bloody and brutal round.

The scenario that makes me wonder if Gus is live, is Gus being super active laterally and counter punching Cormier from the outside. Basically I wonder if Gus can revisit the strat Bones used to work Cormier. I just hate making a gameplan bet on a guy who basically threw away every conceivable advantage against Rumble, thats where I start to get gravely concerned about Cormier grinding Gus into paste against the fence and putting him on his back for an exclamation point.

And another thing that makes me want to value town Gus is how much soft money is going to stack up on Cormier based on how badly Gus fucked up vs Rumble. +180 I get, but +250? For the one guy in the division to take it to Jones? Thats... questionable.

Cormier will be a slam dunk mauling of Gus. I'll go with a second round finish.

Rumble landed his few big blows in his 2 minute fight with Gus putting pressure on him. Cormier will pressure Gus too and he will fall apart.

Bones didn't take same approach with Gus just like he don't in most fights. He's crafty as hell with his skill set but he's patient in picking his spots. This didn't work so great vs. Gus but in the end he got W.

I love Cormier, but his kryptonite vs Jones was his reach. Gus has reach in spades. But i digress, Gus is not as fast as Jones. To me, if Gus can keep off of the ropes and getting leaned on to death, he's got a legit shot at it.

If Gus can keep DC off him for 5 rounds & make it a stand-up fight he will have an excellent chance or even a lock because, if he can, DC will get frustrated & break.

If DC gets a hold of him like he did against Rumble then DC wins. Simple.

I just don't see a guys who's weakness is wrestling keeping an Olympic caliber wrestler off him for 5 rounds. Yes, I do understand he's improved his wrestling training with Phil Davis but I really don't think it's enough. I see an ugly fight happening where Gus gets mauled for a few rounds before getting finished when he has nothing left in the tank.

Gus' wrestling looked pretty amazing against Bones; he's the first person to land a TD on Bones, and he did it a few times if I recall.

Im not saying its Cormier's level, but Gus really does have the tools to pepper Cormier from the outside without getting caught and just generally not put himself in a spot to get shot on.

But yeah I think we are all in agreement that if Cormier clinches with Gus anywhere at all, its his round to lose.

FWIW, the gus fight is the one Bones barely trained for, and the one where everyone close to him thought he was gonna finally get his comeuppance, that his lifestyle was finally gonna catch up with him, but he still won. Maybe AJ or DC would have put Bones away that night, who knows... But either way Gus's best performance had the benefit of being the same night as Jon Jones's worst performance.

I can tell you who lost; anyone who wanted to see a good fight.

Barnett carried fatboy for 5 straight rounds. He would tee off on him with impunity then let him catch his breath. On a few occasions, Domino got Barnett to the ground and Barnett instantly tied him up until the ref stood them up.

Rich Franklin retired today. He may not be a great fighter in comparison to the top MW fighters of today, but he beat everyone that was put in front of him until Anderson Silva. He was always a company man that did whatever was asked of him so I'm sure that Dana will find a place for him at Zuffa.

You know.. what amazes me is how Silva blew the doors open for evolution in that weight class. Franklin, at his absolute peak of dominance, would not be a top 20 fighter in that weight class today.

Jones pulls a Micon and gets 18 months probation.

Dana White was in court. UFC 192 is this weekend (Cormier vs Gus). Great timing to make a match in February Jones vs the winner on Saturday?

Johny "phat" Hendricks misses weight and is out for the Woodley fight; had to be taken to hospital due to weight cut issues (ie, not having an IV):

According to Hendricks' manager Ted Ehrhardt, Hendricks suffered a blockage in his intestine last night while cutting weight, as well as a kidney stone. He was rushed to the emergency room and had to be given an IV. UFC president Dana White announced via Twitter Friday morning that Hendricks-Woodley was off due to "Hendricks weight cut issues."

He's always had issues with weight cuts in his career. He just needs to move to 185 and be done with it.

why? he'd barely be relevant at 185 and his pay would reflect it.

the legislative powers behind the sport of mma like it when people can obtain unnatural advantage through weight cuts. it brings highlight reel ko's and 'dominant legacies'. which equate to market penetration and resultant revenues.

dont hate hendricks for managing his career wisely. hate the sport that makes it impossible to earn just rewards without engaging in patently unsafe behavior.
