It is illegal for cops to randomly call in your plates looking for information to pull you over for like no insc etc. It would taint any evidence they found and should subject them to discipline.
I also understand that it's in my best interests to 'behave' and be cooperative and respectful
the difference in this particular instance is that the Reedsport, Oregon police department has a TERRIBLE reputation even in Oregon
this little shit town is widely known as a speed trap throughout the state
in addition, the police department is constantly under fire for using excessive force and victimizing locals and travelers coming up or down the coast.
Thank God this spineless pussy was officially 'relieved' of his duties as a full time police officer.
He had been directly involved in 3 shootings in the short time I lived there (not including the one mentioned in the OP)

They don't have to 'call dispatch' now
apparently this is an expanding trend with local municipal police departments all over the country

Either way, its still not permissible. Not saying it doesn't happen, but that is what good lawyers are for. But they cost money. You won't get that kind of leg work from a PD or a lump sum lawyer.

before my field sobriety tests that night, I specifically asked Officer Fuckface to record everything from their dashcam
his reply was 'we don't use dashcams'
