Funny video of John Oliver bashing attempts to circumvent net neutrality

Net neutrality isn't as simple as it seems, and the cable companies are somewhat unfairly getting the bad PR here (one of the rare times when they don't deserve all the bad PR they get!)

However, this is a pretty funny video by John Oliver about the matter:

This is one of the few works of Oliver that I actually like. Usually I just see him as a poor man's Jon Stewart.

Kind of a moonlanding because it's dated June 1, but I hadn't seen it yet, so here it is.

+ 1 on the John Oliver bandwagon. The guy is funny as fuck and I actualy hear news items I wasn't aware of when I watch his show.

The running "this South American country" shtick on the map when it's not really the country he's talking about is fucking gold.

Druff has started more than one thread with a clip from John Oliver. In which he agrees with Oliver's position.

John Oliver WAS Jon Stewart. Oliver collected 3 Emmys as Sr. writer.

Oliver rips the NCAA a fresh asshole. I have posted more than once about how the NCAA is a fucking fraud.

It would have taken a little edge off the comedy but Oliver never mentioned the other Oliver in the NCAA piece. Oliver Luck. QB Andrew Luck's Rhodes Scholar, ex QB, lawyer father.

Oliver Luck is second in command at NCAA and was offered the position despite his well known position regarding college student compensation. EA's names, images and likeness lawsuit loss. Wisconsin's loss regarding athletes union organizing. Etc. etc.

    The money is gonna come.

NCAA president's bullshit about how most schools don't make money with athletics. I have always loved the bus ride lower Division I basketball teams make to top tier programs.

Question: why you guys playing that team?

Answer: yeah, we are gonna get crushed but our school gets $100K from the ranked school for the night.

You don't have to be a college finance major to spot the quick buck.

John Oliver is clutch every Sunday.

(4D, notice the quick Cat Stevens - Tea for the Tillerman album cover)
    Oliver is God

This could become a weekly thing.

John Oliver & Edward Snowden. Funny, informative. Operating in god-mode now.

Initially, it took me a few minutes to believe this wasn't some lame editing job. This was never in Jon Stewart's range even with Oliver as writer.

    Just tap out.

He's ridiculously good every sunday... Jeff the diseased lung, NCAA, how we elect judges... even his mediocre pieces are 10 times better than anything else on tv... I get tired of conservatives dismissing this style of news reporting because it is delivered with comedy. It's not boring, people pay attention and get informed... so it's not news if it's not from an old angry white guy or a blond bimbo?.... Oliver is doing a fantastic job, I was super skeptical when he left as head writer for Stewart, but the man delivers every week with informative and unique perspectives on important topics most people will ignore because of our tl;dr culture...

I thought most liberals had the same complaint about Rush Limbaugh in the early 90s.

Nothing Rush Limbaugh said was ever clever or witty. He was and is a bad person. I don't think Limbaugh was ever purposely funny, he just happens to be laughable.

Head "liberal" here. I hate Rush Limbaugh but I enjoy listening to him on occasion. His big mistake is when he get mad and just starts yelling, keep it light and funny and Rush is gold.
Rush can be clever and witty but the most important thing is to have the right radio voice and delivery.
Howard Stern's got it, Rush has it and believe it or not Druff's got it.

I can listen to Stern, Rush and Druff for over an hour pretty much regardless of content and that's it.
Pro tip: Druff''s cohosts should rarely talk more than 10% of the time or they risk making the show annoying.

I'd fire Mark the annoying whiny bitch Levin and replace him with Druff tomorrow if I was in charge, of course Druff would have to start playing way looser with the facts and spew major league lies on the daily to make it in the "Conservative Entertainment Complex."

Oh Michael Savage is pretty good too, pretty much all the others are easily replacable and just filling time slots.

How anyone can listen to Hannity or Levin for over 2 minutes is beyond me.

Druff you could make a great Conservative shill, real talk.

Even a supreme gentleman would know that would only be funny if it was an EIB TV stand.

How is Rush a bad person? I'm not saying he's perfect or a saint, but aside from saying a few over-the-line things for shock value, what has he really done that's so bad? Yeah, he got addicted to pills, but the only victim of that was himself, and it occurred because he tried to self-medicate his back, rather than pill popping for pleasure.

I don't know how you can dismiss Limbaugh's radio talent. If he was just "laughable", he wouldn't have enjoyed the immense popularity he gained in the early '90s, much of which still exists today. Rush was great at taking real issues, explaining them in a way everyone could understand, and making them interesting. Prior to Rush, political talk shows were boring, and you had to be a real political junkie to appreciate them. Rush changed that. Liberals mostly hated him because the right finally had their influential conservative figure in the mass media. Sure, conservative talk show hosts existed long before Rush, but they only had a small fringe following, and were never a threat. Rush himself was partially responsible for the sweeping Republican victories in 1994.

All of a sudden, every stupid thing liberals did and said would end up being heard by 20 million people every day, and many of them weren't even diehard conservatives. Republicans never had such a far-reaching voice in the past.

Rush Limbaugh and Howard Stern were both radio geniuses. They each discovered a large, untapped market in radio for what they were doing, tailored themselves to fit that market, and became wildly successful. Howard wasn't the first shock jock, but he was the first shock jock to incorporate it with a character-driven show, rather than just sitting at the mic and spouting off offensive things. Rush wasn't the first conservative talk show host, but he found a way to make politics entertaining and appeal to a mass audience.

FPS Russia, I appreciate your compliments. I don't put myself anywhere in the league of people like Rush or Howard, but I'm glad you enjoy listening to me.

The vast majority of all drug use is self-medication.

Judge Druff finally sees a shade of gray. Rush said more than once that people who were caught doing the same thing as Rush should go to jail -- then he suddenly stopped thinking that. Instead of getting his own drugs the asshole forced his maid to go out and find them. Once he got involved in drugs Rush said it was only the pills and his story was made the narrative. We don't know that it is completely true or is the Rush PR version. Judge Druff takes the drug head at his word.

Rush flew to the Dominican Republic for a probable sex trip and was busted for a mislabeled bottle of Viagra.

He called a woman a whore repeatedly for advocating for birth control for women. He made it personal although Sandra Fluke wasn't asking for insurance coverage for birth control for herself but for all woman. The worst part about it is that Rush had no problem with insurance paying for dick pills for him and his old guy friends to stick it in the golf holes of prostitutes in the Dominican Republic.

"Limbaugh reported five years ago that he had lost most of his hearing because of an autoimmune inner-ear disease. He had surgery to have an electronic device placed in his skull to restore his hearing. But research shows that abusing opiate-based painkillers also can cause profound hearing loss."

I also think Rush doesn't believe half the shit he says. He is into hurting the country for the money which makes him a terrible person.

When he's talking shit, he is generally being humorous about whatever anyone is apt to get upset about. The best part about it is that he has little to no power and everyone says that he does. If he did, there would never be a democrat elected anywhere. That's just not the case, is it? That he is a private citizen that does not so upstanding shit is the best part, because he's not running for any office, so he can do whatever the fuck he wants to, just like you and me. Except that he can afford to do whatever the hell he wants to because he has more money than God. He does the show because that's who he is. He don't need the money sonny.
