This is a good video where he explains they didn't have the cameras to fake the moon landing and faking it would have been harder that going to the moon. The mags/rolls of films would have been humongous.

How could they have the technology to fly thousands of miles into orbit while still controlling the shuttle and making it land safely given the conditions, film it, and then safely get it back to Earth - but somehow they didn't have the technology to have a film director fake it.

Apparently it was Arthur.C.Clarke who wrote the script and Stanley Kubrick directed it.

The comments in the chat on that video destroy the logic behind it, like this one:

Either they faked all of it or none of it. No reason to fake part of it right? Explain how you can see debris left on the Moon's surface from telescopes here, as well as being able to ping the moon with a laser to measure its distance with reflective discs left on the Moon's surface for exactly that reason?

Nobody thinks it would even be a trivial effort to go to the Moon right now. There just ain't shit there, probably not even worth mining. All this and we have remote control cars all over fucking Mars and nobody blinks an eye that it could be fake, because it's easy.

A great energy source...the guy in the video was comparing commercial grade tech not industrial grade or military grade tech that Stanley would have been giving access....by the way the structures on the moon was from alien mining and observatory.
