kasparov's fide rating is 2812, carlsen is 2863.

beyond that, kasparov is heavily involved in politics and no longer plays seriously.

Game 2 is running, look at fide.com and you can also watch it live here:

GM Svidler´s comments are high quality and WGM Sopiko is kindof hot!
Carlsen is crushing right now
why was the game stopped just now?
I was expecting there to be further play until a clear checkmate situation appeared. Did that guy just quit due to him believing the end was inevitable?
After his mistake ...h5? und Carlsens Qb7 he cannot avoid big loss of material or even checkmate...thats why he quit. He cannot protect the square g7.
Maybe he blundered because of time trouble. But the position was already very difficult anyway.
Great game of Carlsen!
^
Anand simply didnt rise to the occasion and Carlsen didnt fuck up.
Anand as white for game 3 will be interesting, I'd like to see him rally and make this a bit of a sweat.

Looks like Carlsen is going to win this thing. Anand is now 40/1 to win outright (ie no 6-6 draw at the end). For next match I like draw odds (9/20) and Carlsen (69/10).
What an excellently played game by Anand. Carlsen felt serious time pressure and had nearly no time left (13s) and resigned in a position that was hopeless save for an enourmous blunder by Anand. This was not likely to happen given that he had 30 mins on the clock. Glad to see this championship won't be a runaway for Carlsen.
shits going to get deep if anand can draw the next game...

Anand does have a big edge on Carlsen in the experience department. He was world champion for many years before Carlsen knocked him off his throne. Anand was prepared for this game until about move 24 and had played a very similar game himself before.
All the elite players at this point use computers in their preparation, in fact most grandmasters know so many positions from experience that they can look at them and instantly evaluate them. Against each other they must use very thin edges and novelties to throw the other off balance. In the end this is what this match will come down to.
There are two interesting articles on fivethirtyeight on the match. In the first Nate Silver predicted Carlsen had a huge edge because of ELO rating, and in the second a super gm was interviewed and put the odds on Carlsen to win at 65%. This seems fair given Carlsen's ELO and the fact that he plays white five more times to Anand's two. Don't count the tiger out, should be a great world championship! Also I predict that tomorrows game will be drawn, which probably means Carlsen will win.
Live stream from Sochi starts in 15 minutes!
Should be very interesting today!

magnus hedgehogging with 15 QF1 is borderline offensive.

I really and truly dont understand Carlsen's play here, which is hardly a shocking event for me but still, he just went straight for the draw.. traded down pieces until end game and then forcing the draw.. if Anand's position was more dynamic before 15 QF1 its only because Magnus seemed seemed ok with that. Does he think Anand is particularly weak as white?
