Willie McGee always included in the "ugliest baseball players of all time" list.

I also remember the chant, "Where would you be without Willie McGee?"

Regardless of the outcome of the bet, I think we can both agree that we had a lot of fun out there during the course of the season.

Grantland writer compares Kershaw to Pedro Martinez in 2000. It alludes to this ballpark issue.

I object to the comparison but he is now in the conversation.
Kershaw plays in a slapnut NL division.
Pedro played against the iron including NY Yankees during the juicer era.

Link in article to Washington Post’s website arguing Kershaw is having the best season of any pitcher since 1995.

This was the sickest year I will ever see in my life. To put up those numbers in that era was absurd. As an Indian fan when they were good in that period, he just stole my soul on so many occasions. A guy would need to have an era under 0.75 and a 0.50 whip before I'd even consider the possibility that a current pitcher had a better season. Six and seven spot hitters had 30 homers in that era. Plus Pedro was 5'11 and like 165lb soaking wet. He was simply amazing. Best pitcher of my lifetime.

Kershaw's ERA+ over the last couple of years is awesome. He's in the 190's, which is pretty fucking spectacular. He's well above Verlander's Cy Young/MVP year which was 172. Kershaw is in Sandy Koufax territory.

Oh, Pedro's 2000 ERA + was 291. Pedro is not only the best pitcher of my lifetime, he's the best pitcher of anyone's lifetime.

There are 150 starts in which he started and got the decision, of these 93 games or 62% were played in these parks. Any decent pitcher would have a bulging win % if his team got him 4 runs in any of these 3 parks. Col and ARI are hitter friendly, but the rest of the time Kershaw basically gets a pass.

Compare that to the parks Wainwright has to pitch in, only STL is a reasonable park(tougher this year because of the Cardinals weak hitting), but CHC, CIN, PIT and MIL, all hitter friendly parks.

    Also 2013 IP Kershaw 236, Wainwright 241.
The 62-0 stat was reported on several broadcasts. Where were the 6 losses?

You mentioned yourself that Colorado and Arizona are hitter friendly, and the Dodgers play as many games on the road in those places as they do in SF and SD. And Colorado is much more of a hitters' park than any pitchers' park is a pitchers' park. So no matter which way you slice it, Kershaw is not enjoying the benefit of pitchers' parks on the road, yet his ERA is a spectacular 1.85. He's not one of those pitchers who owns at Dodger Stadium but gets clobbered on the road. I have seen many of those "good" pitchers over the years and agree they were overrated, but Kershaw isn't.

As I said before, Wainwright's problem is that he gets bombed too often. For the last 2 years, he has had a number of absolutely terrible starts, and then he pretty much owns the rest of the time. Kershaw almost never gets bombed. In fact, Greinke doesn't either, but Greinke's typical start is not nearly as good as the Kershaw or Wainwright typical start.

I wasn't trying to imply Kershaw is anything but the best pitcher in the game if my post came off that way. He certainly is. He's the MVP IMO. I just meant that Pedro's season, in context, was an astounding once in a lifetime type year that I doubt I'll ever see again. As you said, probably the best anyone has ever seen.

Is it possible the Dodgers scored these runs after he was out of the game?

A quick check of the May 17th game from this year says yes to this.

He let up 7 runs in the 2nd (Dodgers losing 7-0) and was yanked.

Vegas has the Cards at a 60% favorite for tonight, and a 58% favorite for tomorrow. Don't know about the last game, but I'm guessing they'll be a ~70% favorite, so that'll give the Cards a ~25% chance of sweeping.

I personally think Pedro Martinez was the GOAT. I was a huuuuuuuuuge Expos fan back in the day & might be slightly biased but he was almost unhittable.
