Sponsorships are already leaving the Clippers.

The advertisers are why he doesn't stand a chance of retaining the team. Not only won't they advertise with him, but they won't advertise in games when the opponents are playing him. Just so many ways to bring pressure on this dude. Especially being in LA. If you're a celebrity, you wouldn't be able to attend a game without your twitter blowing up calling you a racist. If Marge Schott couldn't survive in Cincy 20 years ago, which is full of rednecks, this dude doesn't have a chance.

He's basically done. If I were him I'd be furiously trying to make a deal with the league where I never attend another NBA game, and ownership transfers to my children. If he never shows his face at a game again and has no official role, that may be palatable to all involved.

He bought the team for $12 million. He could just sell out, but NBA teams are appreciating quicker than anything in the world. The Bucks just sold for $500+ million. In '08 the Clippers were worth $200 million. Now they are worth approx $700+ million, so if he can retain that asset, it would behoove his family to keep it. China is crazy on the NBA, and they just made a deal to show games in India and got that new Indian owner in Sacramento.

The thing is Sterling is nuts. He'll probably fight. He's been nuts for a long time. Just read that depo. Who talks like that? When athletes talk about owners being plantation owners/etc. while making millions, it's always like stfu. But this dude legit thinks like that. He actually thinks he should own the fuckers. Parading girls in the locker room to look at the players bodies and shit. That's some 1700s shit going on. He clearly was always super-obsessed with race and image. The dude legally changed his name to Sterling when he was 23 so that it would sound prosperous. That was unheard of for anyone outside actors/writers back then. Many people dropped a vowel or slightly altered ethnic sounding names to Americanize them, but this guy did it to because he said sterling silver was the best, like him.

It always blows my mind how these scandals blow up over relative pocket change. His wife was pissed about a 1.8 million house and a few cars and some jewelry. I'm sure Donald said he'd get her to drop it, but didn't or couldn't, and she fucked his eyes out. What would he pay to now roll back the calender a week and purchase the tape and get her locked into a NDA? She should have gotten a lawyer and sued for distress or something. They could have played the tape for his attorneys. It wouldn't be admissible, but knowing it's out there, they would have advised him to pay her 10x what she was getting sued for.

During the 1999 NBA Finals between the Knicks and Spurs, Johnson caused a stir by saying: “We’ve got a lot of rebellious slaves on this [Knicks] team.”

When asked at the time why he referred to his teammates as slaves, Johnson said: “I’ve got to explain that to you? We don’t go with the mainstream.’’

"During this same period, players Sam Cassell, Elton Brand and Corey Maggette complained to me that DONALD STERLING would bring women into the locker room after games, while the players were showering, and make comments such as, 'Look at those beautiful black bodies.' I brought this to Sterling’s attention, but he continued to bring women into the locker room.".
I wouldn't be shocked if Sterling was one of the BBC trolls on the old neverwin forum

BTW this story has me CONVINCED Sterling loves BBC, just like anti-gay religious pastors who get caught with gay men:

Sterling probably (correctly) assumed that some Koreans would move out if blacks moved into his buildings, so he didn't want that.

I'm not saying it's right, and I agree that such a policy is racist, but I believe he did that more to pacify his existing Korean tenants than because he hated black people.

With that said, I do believe the guy is racist and a general sleazeball, but he seems to belong to the "the blacks and whites should be separate from one another" 1950s-type racism, rather than "I hate blacks and wish they were all sent back to Africa" kind of racism that is prevalent among white supremacists and other hardcore hate groups.

The fact that he's married (something I didn't realize when this story first broke) is also being glossed over, and is also pretty bad. It's one thing for an old, rich bastard to take a young trophy girlfriend (like James Woods), but another altogether to publicly attend basketball games with your gold-digger girlfriend 50 years your junior, while your wife has to stand by and take it. What an asshole.
Most people feel this way of all races. The ones that dont just dont have to interact with each other. I first realized this in high school when I was hanging around a PRican. In my mind growing up on the north side of Milwaukee where it was either white or black only all hispanics were the same. I had no idea they hate each other like whites and blacks hate each other. The worse thing you can call a Rican is a mexican and vice versa.

As long as the blacks keep ruining the country it will always be this way. Go into a black neighborhood and look at all the stores that once thrived are all now closed down. The best thing that ever happened to them was slavery and they dont even understand it. We brought you here you dumb n-word show some respect.

    http://youngcons.com/nba-legend-kare...t-his-private/

Basketball legend, former teammate of the slurred Magic Johnson, and former employee of Sterling himself, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar wrote an interesting piece about Donald Sterling for Time.

"Moral outrage is exhausting. And dangerous. The whole country has gotten a severe case of carpal tunnel syndrome from the newest popular sport of Extreme Finger Wagging. Not to mention the neck strain from Olympic tryouts for Morally Superior Head Shaking. All over the latest in a long line of rich white celebrities to come out of the racist closet. [...] [N]ow the poor guy’s girlfriend (undoubtedly ex-girlfriend now) is on tape cajoling him into revealing his racism. Man, what a winding road she led him down to get all of that out. She was like a sexy nanny playing “pin the fried chicken on the Sambo.” She blindfolded him and spun him around until he was just blathering all sorts of incoherent racist sound bites that had the news media peeing themselves with glee.
They caught big game on a slow news day, so they put his head on a pike, dubbed him Lord of the Flies, and danced around him whooping. [...]
Shouldn’t we be equally angered by the fact that his private, intimate conversation was taped and then leaked to the media? Didn’t we just call to task the NSA for intruding into American citizen’s privacy in such an un-American way? Although the impact is similar to Mitt Romney’s comments that were secretly taped, the difference is that Romney was giving a public speech. The making and release of this tape is so sleazy that just listening to it makes me feel like an accomplice to the crime. We didn’t steal the cake but we’re all gorging ourselves on it."

I feel like not very many have been talking about this side of the issue. It sounds almost like he is defending Sterling, but he when on to make sure no one was confused about how he felt:

"I don’t blame them. I’m doing some whooping right now. Racists deserve to be paraded around the modern town square of the television screen so that the rest of us who believe in the American ideals of equality can be reminded that racism is still a disease that we haven’t yet licked. What bothers me about this whole Donald Sterling affair isn’t just his racism. I’m bothered that everyone acts as if it’s a huge surprise. Now there’s all this dramatic and very public rending of clothing about whether they should keep their expensive Clippers season tickets. Really? All this other stuff I listed above [about Sterling being sued multiple times for racial discrimination] has been going on for years and this ridiculous conversation with his girlfriend is what puts you over the edge? That’s the smoking gun? He was discriminating against black and Hispanic families for years, preventing them from getting housing. It was public record. We did nothing. Suddenly he says he doesn’t want his girlfriend posing with Magic Johnson on Instagram and we bring out the torches and rope. Shouldn’t we have all called for his resignation back then?"

    Wow,

What I don't get is who of Sterling's friend was giving him shit about her being on FB w/ a black guy?
    I mean how would that all go;
another 70+ white rich guy "Hey Don, your black hooker-mistress is dissing you, not your wife, not your white mistress/hooker, but your black/hooker is on FB taking pictures w/other black people? are you just going to sit there and take that????"

Give me a fucking break, what a clown. Even If you do have a policy that you won't have sex w/someone that has been w/a brother, you'd have to let a black chick slide on that clause.

This guy should have been out a long time ago. I honestly don't even know why he would own a NBA team if he doesn't like a majority of the players.

But I'm definitely surprised at the lifetime ban + looking at forcing him to sell the team. This is going to turn into a legal shit show. Then what's the next step? Players just won't play for the team?

Not sure how the NBA is going to force him to sell the team.
If the NBA revokes the L.A. Clippers NBA membership, they are firing or terminating all players too.

Sterling should make at least $1 Billion from the sale.

I've heard the L.A. Clippers are worth close to $1.5 Billion.

If you pick up a paper copy of the L.A. Times, Donald Sterling is the guy running those ads for luxury apartments,
$10K to $20K per month, on Wilshire Blvd, in Beverly Hills and in other upscale areas.

Negroes and Hispanics will be banned for life from renting his properties.

Someone should have told Sterling that hes better off killing dogs, beating his wife, or beating up fans. At least he could get his job back someday.
