Rofl, can you actually hire an assassin on Silk Road? The thought of a hitman taking a Bitcoin as a payment is lol.

i usually feel sorry for micon and at some times like him, but shit like the above really makes him easy to hate. what a pompous windbag.
I may be a bit of a rube, but why would you quote a person quoting someone else rather than just quote the original person?

question for someone who can math....

if 3.6 mill of bitcoin was "taken" by the government and hypothetically destroyed, how much more equity does that add per btc?

3.6 mill is say 27000ish btc at $130ish

There are > 11.5 mill of them in circulation http://blockchain.info/charts/total-bitcoins

So a drop in the bucket and really it dropped the price from 140->130 so it had a negative effect.

I saw someone do the math on this and by taking those out of circulation, it should have increased the value by around .26 or .28 cents per coin.

I don't know about the math but my initial thought was if you have X amount of coin wouldn't this matter actually increase the value of all coin available? Of course after the shock and uneasiness investors might have.

I've seen a lot of sites that sell illegal items get busted, only to pop up again shortly. I always laugh when guys use them again, because the feds always arrive at their home shortly after, or simply seize their money and send them a stern customs letter basically daring them to come pick up their ordered products in person.

It's the real world equivalent of a 50 year old white male picking up your drug dealer's phone, and saying "he's busy, just tell me what you want and I'll take care of it."

How close to the cost of mining a coin are they trading at?

Also, the government won't directly trade them and in return fund themselves. They will put the keys into evidence and from there they will disappear without the government directly benefiting.
