OK it feels justified in this instance. But this new law could be totally open to abuse in future cases that won't even make your local news.

Feels to me anyway, that all these so-called civilized nations have been chipping away at our basic rights at a scary speed of knots over the last decade or so.

In our country for instance, the terrorism act has been abused to fuck with many people getting held for months without charge who've had no connection to terrorism at all. Wouldn't surprise me if you have a similar law that is abused just as much.

Governments are far less accountable for their actions than ever before, and squeeze out even more of our civil liberties every chance they get.

We're not as free as we like to believe we are imo.

I'm not gonna type the two or three paragraphs it would take to adequately address your concerns. the reason is because im on my kindle and it would take forever. but the most important thing you need to understand is that miranda is only there to let accused persons know they don't have to talk to the cops if they don't want to. if they incriminate themselves without being read their miranda rights, all that happens is, generally, the statement cant be used against them at trial. but miranda is pretty much a non-issue when the state can prove its case without a pre-miranda confession, such as when the crime is caught on video.

also from what ive read, the kid is going to be afforded every other constitutional right. and the obama administration is butchering the public safety exception to miranda. but, again, it doesn't matter because the crimes were caught on tape, and also, there should be witnesses who will testify that they saw him with the bag, leaving the bag, and admitting to the crime prior to being placed in custody (they fessed up to the crime to the guy they carjacked).

Does anyone know how the MIT cop that was killed fits into this equation? That's the one part of all this that doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

From what I gather from the timeline...

Ambush and kill MIT cop.

Rob 7-11 (or was that someone else all together?).

Carjack someone and admit they are the bombers.

Let him go after taking him to an ATM and withdrawing money.

Get chased by police, throw "grenades", shoot at cops, get into a standoff where they actually throw a bomb exactly like the one they used at the marathon. Older brother gets shot, younger brother gets back in car, runs over older brother and drags him 30 feet, then escapes.

Older brother dies in hospital.

Boston shuts down.

A little less than 24 hours later younger brother is found in a boat 1 block outside of the search perimeter, then gets into another shootout, and then gives up.


Also, why are we not hearing what was found in their place of residence? After the Colorado shooting we knew within 24 hours how geared up that nutjob was, yet there is nothing at all pertaining to this when it comes to these two. I can only guess it's because of an ongoing investigation, but it still seems odd to not hear at least a little bit of details.

if you watch the video, they sprayed this fiberglass boat with automatic and semi-auto fire for like ten seconds and this guy is alive?

He was injured enough in the first shootout that he left a noticeable amount of blood leading up to the boat. This guy lives one block outside the police perimeter, and upon seeing blood near his boat he goes and investigates himself instead of calling 911 immediately.

I don't know if this has changed, as I have not been following this since the 2 days of the chase, but the rounds they fired at the boat were dummy rounds. They said over the police scanners (at least 4 times) we are are gong to fire many dummy rounds at the boat and no officers should fire unless they are in physical danger. While they fired the barrage of dummy rounds they also fired they flash grenades which disabled him(more). The press then reported all the shooting of the dummy rounds as gunfire directed at the boat.

To be fair to the media, most of them agreed not to report on what they heard on the scanners unless it could be confirmed some other way.

Is there some citizen's right to have access to the radio communication of police? Perhaps I can understand dispatching information or something but it is hella weird that tactical communications are not only available over the air but also freely rebroadcast over the internet to the world.

"We conducted this process as quickly as possible and are confident the product has been removed from distribution," Nike spokeswoman Mary Remuzzi said in a statement emailed to The Associated Press.
