The 'study" was based on BMI.

If you ask ANYONE in the fitness industry, they will tell you BMI is the biggest load of horseshit in the world, and might be the worst indicator of health ever invented.

Thus, the study and article is complete bullshit and worthless.

There is not one reputable study that says being fat will help you live longer, because it doesn't for so many reasons I wouldn't have time to list them all. Just the opposite actually.

If you keep the Doritos and Wings to 1,700 calories a day you will lose weight rapidly

    1 bag of Doritos = 300 calories

8 naked chicken wings at Hooters = 650 calories

    2 beers at Hooters = 300 calories

    6 piece Chicken McNugget = 300 calories

    Granola Bar = 100 calories

Total is 1,650 calories. Are you depriving yourself?

    My intake for the day

1 12oz cup of coffee with 6 packs of splenda (dont judge) and french vanilla creamer
2 McDonalds breakfast burritos (the cheap $1 ones)
    1 McDonalds Hashbrown

    1 banana
1 blueberry light yogurt by dannon

    8 slices of salami

2 bowls of home made chicken soup with noodles
    1 12oz glass of 1% milk
32 oz of ice cold water

    10 hooters medium chicken wings
1/4 of large bag of Doritos

this is not a typical day, and I feel shame. Also indigestion

I don't believe most of this study, either.

However, it does raise one point that often gets ignored.

Being too thin, or even being moderately thin but routinely not eating enough, can be more unhealthy than being fat.

Too often thin/fit people can be complimented for how they look and how "healthy" they seem, when in reality they are less healthy than most fat people.

However, I think the study is bullshit in the claim that being overweight gives you an edge to live longer.

Specifically, men with heart attacks, aged 40-60 without genetic heart defects, are very frequently overweight. That is what is motivating me here.

This study is probably also skewed by the fact that very skinny old people might be suffering from other health problems indicative of their life being close to an end (such as cancer), while overweight older people tend to be healthy at the moment. However, I would bet on a healthy, skinnier old person outliving the healthy fat one any day.

Many people in this thread, as well as in the radio chat room, were skeptical of my diet plan.

I can understand this, because it was designed by me for me, by the person who knows me the best -- me.

I am also not guaranteeing it will work.

However, I was trying to come up with something reasonable that:

    1) Cuts out a lot of calories
    2) Is realistic for me to be able to live with
    3) Is reasonable to "transition" to something long-term sustainable after the weight loss is done

If I make some sort of extreme lifestyle change, that will last at most a few weeks before I decide I am miserable and give up on everything.

So rather than embark on that and end up in failure, I picked something more moderate that, at the very least, has a reasonable shot to work.

I also don't want to get into using any chemical product such as diet soda, diet pills, or other weight-loss aids, which might make me lose weight but cause other (possibly worse) problems down the line. I am either going to do this naturally (by taking in fewer calories) or not at all.

I came up with this plan because of the following factors:

    - I can go a long time without eating from the time I wake up until much later in the day

    - I need a high-calorie drink when I first wake up and before I go to sleep, or I am very unhappy

    - I can be happy if I have one satisfying meal per day

    - I can get by drinking water for most of the day and not feel too deprived

For those saying, "Don't drink a lot of calories before bed, that's awful" or "Don't eat one meal and starve yourself the rest of the day, that causes weight gain", I'm sorry but that's a load of crap. What I'm doing may not be optimal, but the bottom line is that if I manage to substantially reduce my calories from food and drink on a daily basis, I will lose weight. As long as I don't snap back into the old bad habits, I won't gain it back.

This is one of those topics that I don't like discussing with people, because everyone thinks they're an expert and likes to offer unsolicited advice.

On a related note, I don't look forward to ever being a parent.

Not really sure why you are over-analyzing this Druff. Take in 1500-1700 calories a day. Exercise 30 minutes a day even if its a brisk walk. You will lose 2 to 3 lbs a month.

Stay away from the sides at dinner. That is what does people in, such as potatoes, corn, bread, etc.... People eat this out of control.

It's ALL about calorie intake. It's a numbers game.

You've already said this exact same fucking thing. How badly damaged is your brain?

Please go back to hurricanes and Ric Flair, you're even worse when you try to contribute normally.

Last time I respond to you in any thread. I have an advanced degree from one of those NE schools that cost a lot of money that you see in movies. I make a lot of money in a field you probably could not even spell.

You are just some hustler who trolls.

Like I said, this is my last post to you, because talking to you damages my brain as you tried to eloquently put in your latest flame to me.

Now go away, and play some bitcoin poker, you monumental geek.

Druff, you are correct in doing what YOU think will work for YOU. The hard part is the first few days and if you started Monday, you should be close to getting past that. Just remember, that you didn't put the weight on in 1 month, so it will take time to lose it. Just be sure that if you fall off the "diet wagon" on a bad day, be sure to get back on it again. Down the line when you feel the change may not be worth it, just take a look at your son and it will make everything worth it. Good Luck.

Will you be posting your progress weekly?

Without some weight training, it doesn't matter the number on the scale, you will still look like shit when you look in the mirror.

Lot of 6'0 180lb dudes look like shit, and their health is only marginally better than it would be at 200. Sure, it's simply calorie deficit equation if your only concern is getting to a number, and not what you actually look like at that number.

This isn't directed at Druff who is simply concerned with longevity and seeing his kid turn 50 and general health without giving up the things he likes, but the whole "it's simply calorie deficit" argument is oversimplified if it's about actually looking good. Yes, you'll lose weight, but there is a fuckton of out of shape men in the normal range of weight.
