Like I saw this TDS woman sharing a graphic showing that under Biden, 16 million jobs were created, and under Trump, 1 million jobs were lost. The graphic obnoxiously said something like, "Go ahead and fact check it!"
She was sharing it like it was completely owning the right -- that Biden was masterful with the economy, while Trump has been a disaster.
I asked her, "What occurred at the beginning of Biden's term to bring so many new jobs?"
She played dumb. I asked again, and gave a hint. I told her to focus on 2020, and then the change we had in 2021-2022. She still played dumb.
I finally gave her the answer: The COVID shutdowns of 2020, followed by the reopenings of 2021 and 2022. This caused a massive artificially forced job loss in 2020, and huge job gains in 2021 and 2022. I told her that you can't credit Biden for any of this -- that it was just people returning to work after being shut out of their jobs. I stated that a monkey could have been President and experienced the same 2021-22 job growth.
She wouldn't accept it. She again repeated, "Go fact check it, these numbers are right."
She also stated, "That's your opinion. You're not an expert. Biden created 16 million jobs, Trump is losing people their jobs. If you think I'm wrong, fact check it!"
She wasn't trolling me. She honestly believed that the COVID reopening had nothing to do with this, and was devoid of all logic.
Now... at least this was taking place on her personal Facebook page. I wasn't forced to respond to her. I wasn't even forced to remain Facebook friends with her. I could have ended it at any time. It was my (probably stupid) choice to engage.
But the conversation was very frustrating. I couldn't get her to concede the most super-obvious and super-transparent point. She was going to defend her illogical point at all costs.
That's what I feel happens here with you. I brought up the plane thing because it was the perfect example.
A guy getting on an airplane during pre-boarding cannot "read the room" regarding how busy it will be, much like I can't guess how full Dodger Stadium will be if I'm the first one through the gates, 90 minutes before gametime. This is something you have to wait and see, regarding how much everything fills.
And, as I pointed out at the time, there was no reason to take guesses. The guy was not going anywhere. He was taking the flight! All he had to do was take a picture once the doors were closed, and he could show a true depiction of the plane's supposed emptiness.
But he didn't. You know why? Because like 80% of the stuff on X these days, it was misleading engagement bait. Which I despise.
So when you accidentally post this dumb engagement bait, just take the L and admit it. Even I've made the mistake before, where I've accidentally shared something misleading or which has already been debunked. I admit it, scold myself for not thinking critically enough, and move on. You won't find one example here where I stick to my guns in the face of obvious debunking of what I'm claiming.
If you still can't understand why that airplane picture was just bullshit engagement bait, and you can't understand why it annoyed people when you defended it, then you don't understand PFA.
