i think there are maybe 3 or 4 people here who dont feel how you do and one of them is druff and another is desertrunner.

no one understands why druff thinks its acceptable. all of us have probably had upwards of a hundred conversations about it.

there has never once been a time in the history of this community, from the first day someone set up a forum to now, where this has been allowed to happen.

we've always been willing to punish people for being pathologically shitty at posting, until now.

There's no reasonable or logical explanation, but here's a genuine attempt:

Desert is genuinely autistic and probably needs some level of social support. Druff knows this and takes pity on him. Desert probably has done something nice/selfless for druff before, hence the loyalty.

Druff is an unlikable blowhard, evidenced by the existence of this site and a history of falling out with basically everyone. When desert is happy/stimming he idolizes druff and would do anything for him. No risk or fear of abandonment from a guy on the spectrum interested in fire trucks.

If there were opportunities for druff to grow in fame, get sponsored etc. he would have snuffed him out long ago but druff is realistic about those ships having long sailed away.

Open to other ideas though.

I actually liked Boz before he freaked out, and almost met him in Vegas, which only didn't happen because our visits there missed each other by a few days.

Prior to the sonatine obsession, he was a good poster here for the most part.

I know the VCT people get a lot of shit over here, but when they are not trying to troll, they're usually good posters. Mickeycrimm is a good example of this. I know that he has antagonized people, so I'm not saying that he's a victim in any way for all the shit he gets, but he has posted a lot of good stuff when he's not involved in the trolling wars. The slots stuff is excellent, as are his travel reports and pictures. I don't always agree with his political posts (even though we generally vote the same way), but at least they're quality in that he explains his positions and doesn't just shitpost memes or nonsense.

I know mickey's name didn't come up in this thread, but I'm just pointing out that I like his presence here, even though I can also understand why some don't like him.

I've explained this a million times before regarding desertrunner, but I'll explain it again regarding why he's not banned on PFA.

Yes, he gets some extra chances because of my personal friendship with him, but you won't find a forum owner on earth where that's not the case.

However, as you guys have seen, I was willing to ban him (for a long time) before, so it's not like that's off the table.


But that's not the main reason he stays here. Recall that I have let many people stay here over time who annoy people (and none of them were friends on mine), as I really don't like banning for that reason. Most recently, that "joe croupier" guy got a lot of chances before I banned him, and he had a shorter leash than everyone else because he was new.

desertrunner brings some value to the forum in that he is a topic starter. Some of the topics are of low value because they're niche interests of his, which are unlikely to spawn discussion. However, many of the other topics bring on real discussion, which is good for the forum. In fact, in some cases I'm about to start a topic myself, and see that desertrunner already started it earlier in the day. More importantly, he brings other topics to the forum which I think are good, yet otherwise I wouldn't have thought of posting.

We have a number of "reply guy" types here who are very good and prolific posters, but they rarely start topics. A forum with 100% reply guys will die, by definition. A forum with all topic starters will become a cluttered mess. You need a combination of both for a forum that stays active.

I try to start topics myself, and I do it while keeping in mind what people are likely to want to read and respond. Sometimes even I blow it, and a topic I'll start will get 0-1 replies.

But it's good to have regular topic starters besides me. sonatine is one of them, and I appreciate that. But desertrunner is another. And while desertrunner would sometimes overdo it, his topic starts is and was a net positive to the forum. I just had to get the number of topics under control, which I did through the software changes. That's why I made that modification, rather than just ban him. If his topics were mostly shit, I would have just banned him, despite our friendship.

Do I agree with desertrunner's assessment that PFA would be dead without him? Obviously not. It went on just fine during the time he was banned, and it would continue to be active if I were to ban him today. He does overvalue his own presence here, and he undervalues the longtime members here, acting as if they don't matter. In a small community such as this one, the longtime members matter very much, and it's important as a forum owner to respect them. He doesn't seem to understand that I am never going to ban longtime members just because he doesn't like them, and that this forum mainly exists as a continuation of a poker subcommunity which spawned in 2004. PFA is never going to be remade or reformed. It will stay mostly as-is, and the day I have to change that is the day it shuts down.

You're right that the trolling of Karen Nathan was terrible. It was something he carried over from VCT, which I never liked when it occurred over there. To be fair, Karen Nathan caused a fair amount of trouble on VCT (to the point I had to restrict her for awhile), whereas over here she was always fine. She had also been a pain in the ass on other advantage play forums, so I tried to give people on VCT some leeway regarding trolling her, as she wasn't innocent. But it was dumb to take it over here, as nobody wanted to see that nonsense.

But he made a lot of good posts about general topics such as sports, travel, Christopher Mitchell, and even politics before starting to make them all about sonatine.

My impression of Boz here slowly shifted from "I'm glad he came over here" to "Some of his posts kinda suck but he's still a decent poster overall" to "He's starting to get really annoying" to "Okay I have to ban him".

What I'd like to see from desertrunner is the following. And yes, if the below continues too much, I will have to ban him, as much as I don't want to do it:

1) Stop calling people here pedos. We had one actual pedo on the forum (unbeknownst to us, until he vanished), and that was 4Dragons. Nobody else on this forum has shown any pedo tendencies, so that insult is stupid and should be retired. If it were aimed at one person and at least for some actual reason, it would be different, but desertrunner uses this against several people on PFA, just because he doesn't like them.

2) "Liberal logic" and "arguing like a liberal" needs to be abandoned, especially because desertrunner is now using that line toward people like Tellafriend, VaughnP, 1dollarboxcar, and even me. Even worse, the allegation makes no sense, as these people are not engaging in any arguments typically used by liberals. In fact, desertrunner would be best off never mentioning liberals here, except in political discussions.

3) Stop accusing of longtime members "ruining the forum". The longtime members ARE the forum. They're the reason it still exists after all these years. You're not going to convince me to remove them, nor are you going to convince me to change the tone the forum has had since day one.

4) Stop complaining about "censorship" because I change thread titles or merge threads. I've stated the way I want this forum to look and feel, and it's my choice. Also, most people on PFA agree with what I'm doing regarding that.


The above just pisses everyone off, causes needless controversy, and ultimately clutters the forum with all of the back-and-forth arguing about your presence.

As occurred last time, your disruptiveness overcame your value here, and I had to ban you. I'd prefer that not happen again, but a change in the above four behaviors would go a long way towards that.
