Just watched Lakers get a pretty good win without Luka or Lebron, on the back of Austin Reeves scoring 50+. Lakers have won last 2 games, but could be pyrrhic victory down the road. Luka, Smart and Vincent injured on top of Lebron; without anyone coming back anytime soon. (so 4 of the top 6 rotation players will be out for foreseeable future).
Lakers team tomorrow in Portland is going to be as white as the crowd. There is definitely a possibility they have 4 white players on the floor at once (Reaves, Knecht, LaRavia, Manon*)
*Never even heard of this guy before tonight. He was on the Warriors summer league squad, and Lakers played them a couple times and I guess liked what they saw. But he is a guard who got a couple minutes tonight in front of Bronny, which is pretty embarrassing.
Now that I think about it pretty bad look for Bronny that Smart and Vincent went out this game with injuries and he couldn't get in the game. If he doesn't play (non blow out run) tomorrow with all the injuries and on a back to back, we will know JJ is done with him.
Mark Walter is now the majority Lakers owner.
Since 2021, Walter has owned 27% and the Buss family owned 66%.
Now Walter and his partner own 85%, and Buss family owns 15%.
The team valuation at the time of sale was $10b.
He can't just wildly spend like he does with the Dodgers, because of cap rules. Still interesting.
Jeannie Buss stays in charge... for now. She retains 15% ownership, so it looks like she kept most of what she owned, and the other Buss kids sold. Jeannie famously doesn't get along with her loser brothers, so this isn't a surprise.
Just wanted to bump this thread to LOL Blazers.
They played the Laker D team on a back to back and lost. The annoying thing was I knew Lakers were going to punt the game, so as soon as line came out I took Blazers -3. And then when it was predictably announced Luka and Reaves out (making 4 of the Lakers theoretical starting 5 out) line goes to 9. And Blazers lose outright.
I will say the Laker "strategy" was to just let the Blazers take a bunch of open 3's, which they mostly missed. While the Lakers took mostly 2's, with the notable exception of Nick Smith, who went 5-6 from 3. Blazers took twice as many 3's as Lakers and made the same number. And it isn't like Lakers had some lockdown D and Blazers couldn't score inside. They made most of their shots inside, but for whatever reason kept taking 3's instead of going inside, which they missed most of.
I am all for NBC having Primetime NBA games, but LOL making it a Clipper game on a back to back. You really think the Clippers (of all teams) are going to play their stars on the second night of a back to back, especially against the Thunder? NBC is crazy. Clippers are resting Kawhi and Beal, which is actually one of the better case scenarios.
