    BUC-EE'S

Super popular national chain. I have not been to a store yet, but there is a new property opening up in Goodyear, Arizona and I plan on visiting eventually. I dont think Druff and Ben have been to a Buc-ee's yet either, but once they visit the Arizona location, Druff will give a full report.

The first Buc-ee's in Arizona is a new travel center being built in Goodyear at 1001 N. Bullard Ave., located at the intersection of I-10 and Bullard Ave. Construction began in May 2025 and the store is expected to open in June 2026. The 74,000-square-foot location will feature 120 fueling positions, 200 full-time jobs, and all the typical Buc-ee's offerings.

Location: 1001 N. Bullard Ave., Goodyear, AZ 85338 (at the intersection of I-10 and Bullard Ave.).

Size: Approximately 74,000 square feet, which is larger than an NFL football field.
Opening Date: Expected to open in June 2026.

    Features:

    120 fueling positions
    Award-winning restrooms
    Texas-style barbecue
    Homemade fudge and Beaver Nuggets
Freshly baked pastries and thousands of snack and drink options

Buc-ee's are great, but they were better when they were just a Texan thing. I grew up going to Surfside Beach in Texas, and the original Buc-ee's are in the adjacent Lake Jackson area. They first opened one of their travel center concepts in the mid 00s, but they didn't take off until they opened a location on I-45 in Madisonville, Texas in 2009. Even then they didn't really become a thing for a couple years, but that location is definitely responsible for all of their success. My friends and I would always stop there coming and going from Galveston, Surfside, or Houston. In East Texas their beaver themed t-shirts spread virally among young people first, and it became a weird status thing to stop at and buy stuff from there. Now they're everywhere. I've stopped at one as far from Texas as South Carolina - at the time that was the furthest. There are a few weird quirks about the place - the main one is they don't allow truckers, and they weirdly do not carry any Pepsi products at all, even Gatorade. Beaver nuggets are good (the lesser known white chocolate covered ones are better) and they have surprisingly good brisket barbecue sandwiches.

Marketing is always fascinating. I was a kid myself back then. Imagine seeing young, attractive upper middle class white girls everywhere wearing these t-shirts that involuntarily make you think about their "beavers". Their t-shirts were at least 5x more popular after the Madisonville location opened among girls.

The "power to the beaver" slogan was on most of their designs, but literally every one of their shirts for women contained some kind of beaver joke. This preceded all of their real success. Obviously the double meaning of these were intentional, but I doubt whoever pushed those realized how successful that would accidentally become. The beaver mascot itself is obviously responsible for their weird branding success too, of course.

Miss Daly was interested in a university in North Florida so we made a road trip. We ended up stoping at Buc-ees as we were told it was mandatory. It was in fact awesome.

The gas station part of it had 100 pumps and somehow they were all full.

They had an entire wall of jerky in bags. This was not to be confused with the deli counter that serves jerky by the pound.

The pulled pork sammie was amazing. The BBQ sauce used was good and i bought a bottle of it to go.

They had an entire section of clothes. I bought a shirt and a bathing suit which horrified my daughter (But her friends thought I had Rizz).

The wall of drinks went on for half a football field.

I ended up getting a car wash which came out great. It was "free" if you filled up.

They also have these "beaver nuggets" which are like a honey baked puff ball. They were worth the few bucks for a bag.

Ended up dropping $150 all and all and it was memorable.

One more thing they are know for.... the Pay.

You can get a job there as an assistant manager making 6 figures. The staff get paid very well too.

They only thing is there is no such thing as break time. If you standing there you better be cleaning something

    It's 7 Eleven on steroids.
Interestingly, every Buc ee's has a Department of Highways weigh scale on site
    for non commercial vehicles

They offer several levels of membership/reward deals one being

I think the one in Luling is probably the busiest Bucees on the planet…70 miles from San Antonio and 110 from Houston.

Closest Bucees to me is 3.5 miles….Brisket Sandwich was good but cost over $11 now…fuck that.
