It used to be only from 10am-8pm, but they lifted that restriction recently. Now you can drive on the shoulder on those two days.

I did that last time I went to Vegas, as they made special allowance for it on January 2, due to the New Years holiday. Most people were afraid to do it, as it felt unnatural.

I don't think this will do a lot of good during heavy traffic times, because the backup is due to the necessity to slow down for the (almost always closed) fruit inspection station at the border. and not as much because of a lack of lanes going south.
Meanwhile they continue to piss around on building I-11 from Phx to NV. Totally makes zero sense. Largest metro areas with no interstate connection between them. Ridiculous that the route continues to be a 2 lane Hwy (US93) that occasionally widens to 4 lanes at time to allow traffic to pass and spread out again. Meanwhile those zones are literally nascar racing strips with people consistently hitting 100mph+ trying to pass all the semis and slower traffic.

Wow, ftjesus is pretty spot on, I'm impressed. Druff can confirm at age 52, CalPERS and UCRS public safety retiree since Dec. 2022. I also have a FERS retirement waiting for me at age 62. Druff actually knows pretty much most of my life details and can confirm stuff.

This week i drove from LA to Vegas on the 15 and saw NO construction or any indication of future rail in the desert. I guess we will wait and see.

If you suspended reality and the train was actually built it would be one week before the LA crowd would cover that interior in vomit and graffiti.

The drunken fights on board would be a whole daily twitter thing.

There is a reason LA has no mass transit.

Why do you hate America so much, Dessert Runner?

In another thread you rambling about giving money to Ukraine is bad despite the money coming back to America as weapons purchases and/or weapons production jobs for Americans.

Superfast rail creates jobs for Americans, whcih means spending and taxes and other benefits to the economy.

Deaths by train are a lot lower than deaths by driving as well.

My personal take- This is still a horrible idea and should be scraped.

    UPDATE-

Along the I-15 Freeway in the Inland Empire, heavy construction is set to commence next year for Brightline West, the $12-billion high-speed rail line which will connect Southern California with Las Vegas. Simultaneously, California High Speed Rail continues to make progress in the Central Valley, and could one day make its way southward into the Los Angeles area. In anticipation of a day when both services are up and running in Southern California, steps are being taken to connect them.
A September 2024 presentation published by the High Desert Corridor Joint Power Agency offers a look at the proposed High Desert Corridor high-speed rail line, which would span a roughly 54-mile corridor between Palmdale and Victor Valley. This would allow for direct service on Brightline West between Los Angeles Union Station and Las Vegas, rather the current route which is to terminate outside of Los Angeles County in Rancho Cucamonga.

Here's how Brightline West could connect with California High Speed Rail

I never said this. I love my country and the Mojave desert.

Thats BS and a typical liberal lie. We need to stop laundering money at Ukraine, both Obama and Biden has done this.

Superfast rail creates jobs for Americans, whcih means spending and taxes and other benefits to the economy.

And you have facts to back this up? A train between LA and Vegas is NOT needed. People like to use their cars and/or fly there from ONT, BUR, SNA, etc.

Deaths by train are a lot lower than deaths by driving as well.

According to who? Did you just make that up or have real facts?
Thanks to this post, I am always reminded by liberals like trains so much...

    Update-

Las Vegas will eventually be linked to most major cities and towns in California via high-speed rail, starting with Victorville and Rancho Cucamonga.

Brightline keeps saying that its going to happen and going to start and then it never does. Again, this whole train idea is a total failure.

    Another valid question was asked-
What happens when they get to the Cajon Pass ? High speed rail trains have not been made yet that can go over a 6% grade . The highest grade a high speed rail train has gone over is 5.2% and that is in China. So are they going to build a tunnel through the mountains?

Brightline West hopes to kick off heavy construction by the end of the year on the $12 billion project set to run between Las Vegas and Rancho Cucamonga, California. DETAILS: https://www.reviewjournal.com/local/...reOVKRG--6WABg

    Second story-

Construction work on the Brightline West is affecting some roads and ramps with closures next week. Plus, a wife's reaction after a judge sentences the man who killed her husband in a DUI crash. And, how Las Vegas' high jobless rate can predict what's ahead for the rest of the nation.

    Video mark 1:50-

Note to Druff- The thread title in Post #1 is not what I originally wrote, wish you would please not alter the thread titles. Thanks

Called it in the beginning- Horrible idea and fail. As we know, Las Vegas is totally failing as well, so why build a train to a losing destination??

Cost nearly triples to build train between LA, Las Vegas

I agree this isn't needed. The problem comes from the fact that a lot of time in a typical LA-Vegas drive comes from navigating through southern California traffic.

It simply isn't worth much to have a train going from a place like Rancho Cucamonga, where you'd have to expend substantial time and effort to get there in the first place.

The second train proposed to connect to the line in Victorville (where it leaves from LA) is more practical, but there would be a ton of expense here, given that it would have to run from LA-Palmdale, and there would be a lot they'd have to wreck and disrupt in order to build a new high speed line there.

They originally selected Rancho Cucamonga as the starting point because it's open desert going from there to Vegas, so it's easy just to lay down track.

So if this gets built, he's the guy who would get on the Metrolink and transfer.

But as I said, for most people this isn't very useful.

The mass transportation is a failure concept has long been disproved. The Liberal connection is of your own making. With Vegas going the way of Atlantic City I would not donate/invest despite the lure of a train.
