I’ve told the story before…. One of my first jobs was working for a family run electronics business. I worked for or with 3 brothers. Father owned the business along with many other ventures. Pops owned a farm strictly for the perks. It was a vanity farm of sorts.
The father was merciless with the kids - especially the oldest to whom I reported. Dad would bring that kid to tears every other day it seemed. There was no nepotism.
The kids talked about “haying” . That cutting and bailing hay was the hardest thing they had ever done in their life. Dad would give then kids an acetylene torch on their 13th birthday. Kids would make “rails”. Cars cut and spliced outta wrecks with their birthday present and they’d race around the farm.
The father owned a Beechcraft Bonanza twin and the kids got licensed really young. For reasons I can’t fathom the kids were allowed to joyride that plane together like we used to race Camaros at 17. Fucking legend.
So we had a wealthy businessman running a farm for the taxes and character building. Made a lifelong impression.
